VHF marine radio issues

Team

Snapped my VHF aerial up in exxy, and got a replacement from shakespear etc etc...Fitted it out, terminated a new plug, had even a friend whos a marine machanic check out the plug, but still cant get reception at my house. I did around a year ago, and keep trying with the sea resuce to do a radio check but nothing comes thourgh, The radio is a cobra VHF which i bought from all boat buiness less then 6 months ago....does any one have any ideas what this could be? the guys at whitworths were saying if theres been houses being built with tin roofs that could be the issue, and my mate saids only real way is to launch it and try and see if you get reception just offshore....

any ideas would be awsome or pointers would be awomse guys!

I think you'll struggle to get reception over the land like your trying to do. Why don't you chuck the boat in, go just outside the marina and give it a crack?

check output

you might want to check the trx is on high power not low , i live in the northrn suburbs and can get freo base over land , you can just try towing the rig down to the beach front so you have clear view to hillarys or freo to ensure the unit is working , otherwise you may have to go to a radio company to check output power,  also double check you did get a VHF antenna not a 27 meg aerial

Yeah, that hi/lo button can be a pain. We couldn't manage to talk boat-to-boat with the radio on high, at a range of under 1km.
