'93 Bermuda with 120 Force Motor

G'day All, I'm looking at buying a '93 Bermuda with a Force 120 motor from my neighbour for $10 000. I haven't heard of either company before but it appears they were packaged by Quintrex and Mercury. The boat looks solid enough but not sure about the motor. My neighbour hasn't used or maintained the boat well in the last few years. What suggestion can you offer me in regards to the boat, motor and the price? Your comments would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Hook1.

Bit younger then that though :)

From what i know your model was made by Savage or Quintrex (unsure) then they sold the brand to some real crap company that built shit boats. Savage then bought the name and started making good boats again in 2004. Basicly dont buy a Bermuda that was built in the late 90's - 2005.

Great little boats that ride well and get up on the plain easily, easy to handle.

Not sure of that engine but it sounds freakin huge for the size boat. I presume the boat is a 14 foot tinny? Runabout style.

Sounds like a decent buy but I'm not sure about then motor. If your budget allows thing about a newer model with less hours on the engine. Have you ever been on the boat?

I got my '07 Bermuda 450 6 months ago for a bargain price of just over 15k with a 2 stroke 50 Mariner with almost no hours. Food for thought.

 Boat is a runabout 5.6

Boat is a runabout 5.6 metres. Just spoke to Mark at Chivers Marine and they don't service these motors. He wasn't exactly enthusiastic about the brand.

Oversized motor

Thanks for your comments gibbs. Motor does seem big for the boat compared to the motors put onto boats these days. You sound like you got a good deal. Certainly less a gamble than what I'm considering.

Force 120 !!!!!!

Thu, 2011-09-08 20:08

Had one years ago and it was o.k until you couldn't buy parts anymore - Worst still , the shops didn't want to touch them . They have been put together  with old Chrysler parts that they had surplus of - and they decided to clear the floor and make some Outboards for the cheaper end of the market. The motor is about 45 kg heavier than any of the newer ones around and the compression was always a problem , due to substandard rings .

Hopefully this helps !

All the best !

Anyone owned a 90's Bermuda Boat?

Thu, 2011-09-08 20:25

Thanks for the comments the lack of parts and someone willing to service the motor is clearly an issue. Anyone own or has owned the early 90's Bermuda? Would like to know whether it's a sea worthy boat or not.

Friggen Old Repainted Chrysler Engine

I had one on my last boat, never gave me any troubles, easy to work on, but got rid of it, no parts available, mine was a a 1998 120 hp,

A bit of History on the Brand Mercury bought Chrysler back in the 80's and they they used the Chrysler leg and fitted Mercury powerhead and electrics to it, so it is a mercury powerhead and electrics with a Chrysler leg, So You will still get spares for the engine  and electrics from Mecury...

:-)
