Volvo 280 / 290 leg

Does anyone know what is involved in an overhaul of one of these.

The boat has been sitting for a couple of years.

Disconnected the steering cable and can hardly move the leg by hand.

Any idea's on what to do and/or how much would be appriciated.

Cheers....

try plenty of crc and a load of greese pumped through the nipples. replace all nipples first as they will probably be stuffed. remember not to force it too hard one way, just jiggle it from side to side for a bit. if that doesnt loosen it up it would need to be looked at . could be xpencive to get it done tho

No grease

I found the grease to be half the problem. Once I got all the gunk away that had mixed with salt water, my leg came good with Inox. Inox only.

Trailer Boat

I take it that this is a trailer boat ?

If its been sitting for a couple of years ,then chances are that all the rubber bits  seals ,bellows etc will need to be changed .

Be careful to change the grommet where the gear cable passes through the housing ,there's been plenty of boats go down because of this failed rubber grommet.

The steering should free up once you get it all apart and clean it up a bit.
