Volvo Penta trim tabs

Just purchased a couple of replacement interceptor units and cable/grommet assemblies from a retailer in Perth.

I was advised by the retailer to ensure the grommet hole on the mounting face is bevelled out at 45 degrees or else it can affect the installation of the interceptor units, and went on to say this was actually written in the installation manual but overlooked by so many, and was a common cause for interceptor failure.

I have looked in the manual and i can't find any statement which suggests the grommet hole must be bevelled.

I removed the existing units from my boat last night and the grommet holes are not bevelled.  Prior to removing the units there was nothing to suggest incorrect installation (i.e. interceptor unit bowing).

Could anyone here that has a fair amount of familiarity with the installation of this system please provide their thoughts/experience?

TIA.

Tom

 The only reason you had

The only reason you had problems is because:

Didnt install the grommets

Too much sika

Not enough Sika

Boats not square

Boats not flat

You installed the old ones

Installed the wrong way round

Holes not bevelled, thats a new one i have not heard yet!

Haha all bullshit. They just suck

To be honest, I would prefer

To be honest, I would prefer the Zipwakes and made a few enquries, but retrofitting to my boat would be a pain because there is an aluminium mounting plate dedicated to QL/VP interceptors.

Quite a nice design from the boat builder if i must say, i don't envisage any water getting into the hull even if i was to incorrectly install the new units...

I'll probably make do with the VP interceptors until i move back to Perth and can get someone to fill the existing holes, allowing me to start fresh for a new Zipwake install, or Zipwake make an adaptor plate of some sort, or VP improve their units...

Anyway, after further inspection of the grommets, i don't actually see a need to bevel out the grommet hole, so i'm not going to worry about it.
