VRO refit
Submitted by davidbland50 on Sun, 2012-08-19 18:16
Have been very happy with the performance of my 93 Johnson 150hp.A few months ago, I disconnected the VRO from the engine as I was initially having a misfire problem which ended up being a faulty temp sensor. What I want to do, is reconnect the VRO. I was wondering if anybody has done this and whether they had any issues I should be aware of. Thankyou in advance.

Maybe run it on premix for
Maybe run it on premix for the first couple of minutes while the vro primes and get working properly?
Just wondering, was it an intermittent misfire at the lower revs, sort of a single cough with a puff of smoke?

No
Mr meks, it was an agressive misfire once the motor passed 2500rpm. I was told it was the S.L.O.W. mechanism working because the faulty temp sensor was telling it that the engine was getting too hot. No, the reason I disconnected the VRO was initially the motor was overoiling and being very smoky at startup. It was only later I found that this was caused by a leaking fuel hose connection near the primer bulb.
I have now found out that I inadvertantly threw out the VRO oil tank and associated wiring. So if anybody has one lying around, please let me know.

Yeah I removed my vro purely
Yeah I removed my vro purely because I suspected it to be dodgy and I wanted to eliminate a bulk smoke/coughing problem. Ran much better after it was gone but I still have a small residual problem which I am hoping is related to that solenoid that dumps fuel into the manifolds when its cold or you push the choke botton.
Supposedly vro's are quite good, but misunderstood. I just figured it was one more thing that could go wrong so off it came.

Got one
Finally, after a bit of searching, I managed to get another oil tank for the Johnson 150. Now just got to find the time to set it up!!
