200 etec
Submitted by Justin Poole on Thu, 2012-11-08 21:15
Just bought a 200 etec 2006 with 180 hours on it attached to my Stabi craft 659 Supercab.
I am used to a 100hp Yammy 4 stroke on a UB 670.
Question is:-
Rev range between 3500 - 4500, seems like a very small section of the stick, so control is dificult to slow a little for a big swell to stop flying and pounding, the boat travels efficiently at these revs doing 28- 36 knots over 1-1.5 chop.
Could it just be me not used to the new boat?
or its just the normal 2 stroke engine manor?
Could the cable be a little sticky & need replacement?
Could the throttle friction be set too tight?
Any ideas would be good.
Cheers guys
Justin

Dry throttle cable
Hi Justin
I bought a new 590 Trailblazer 2 years ago with the 125 Optimax on the back, and it had a similar problem. It was a real pig to drive because you'd be pushing the throttle slowly forward and nothing would happen, then it would pick up and the boat would take off. Same thing when trying to slow down. It was a pain in anything other than calm water....and completely hopeless to skurf or ski behind.
At the 20hour service I mentioned the problem and the mechanic checked it out and said it needed lubricating...ever since then, it's been a different boat.
Hope this helps.

The rev range seems very
The rev range seems very small range which tends to indicate the wrong prop, but then I have also been in an etec that had had a sticky throttle cable too. Apparently they can get a bit cruddy at one end and you have to replace them.

Join the Etec
Try joining the Etec owners group online Justin. It is a good source of information and you can submit questions being a member. One thing I liked is that it shows you exactly how to rig up a Etec properly , prop, engine height and correct revs . Cheers nev

I think you're on the money
I think you're on the money Rusty. My mate had exactly the problem until he drove my boat and couldn't believe the control he had over the throttle (very smooth to full revs) Had his checked and cable US reckons he's got a new boat now.
