warranty claims
Just a question .......... got a acer laptop that screen went black within the 12 month warranty period... so back off to the large retailer
Handed it in and was told the back lights gone , so bout 4 weeks turnaround to fix ,, all good i thought ,,
Yesterday the retailer called me back and said ,, the backlight is deff covered by warranty but they wont fix it unless you pay for a new case because theres
a small hairline crack in case ( that i never really noticed to be honest) for $220 thank you very much...
no problems i say , tell them to fix the light , i will put up with a small crack ,,,, sorry they say it dont work that way ,,
they will only do warranty work if you pay for new case ,,,,,, so by my thinking the black screen has turned into blackmail... thoughts.....

With a damaged case you're probably lucky any warranty at all is offered.

Cheers mate ,, i suppose your right , but a tiny hairline cosmetic crack , that by there own admission hasnt caused the warranty backlight claim ( common with this model i believe)
just seems petty , esp if im happy to get it returned like that ,,,, but all good , i will bin it and move on , thanks..

Marineperson's amazingly helpful advise aside, I've found consumer protection to be pretty helpful to arm yourself with info to call a retailer's bluff and usually a well written letter or email is enough to get traction.

Could pay for the new case
Could pay for the new case get the screen fixed and on sell as a "new" one. Which in today's market is worth triple the original value. Then buy a new one. Just a thought. But yes it is a shit scenario.

Buy the case, get the warranty to fix the screen, return the new case to the store for a full cash refund
