bout 2k to the reef, watch the swell and tides if you plan to venture out the gap plenty of boats been capsized there, can be good fishing inside the reef just check the sanctuary zones before you go.

Cheers boomer

You will be right going out behind the reef. As boomer said watch the swell though- i stayed at 14 mile with a 3.8m tinnie as we were going through the gap it started peaking up, rather than turning side onto the swell we just gunned out through it fished for a while and then came back in on the back of a wave. The rest of the time we were there wasn't much swell at all.

as above you will have no probs fishing behind the reef we were up there last year april and we had a 13ft dinghy and were going through the gap fine just have to watch the swell and choose your timing thats if the swell is average we couldnt get out on a few days not worth the risk sometimes and there are plenty spangos inside aswell as some massive squid.
