Had my trailer unhooked from the car once at Quindalup. Lucky I checked it, chains were undone and hitch was lifted and pin thrown away. Mine wasn't the only trailer either.

Had the exact same thing, pulled the hitch & threw away the pin. Being down here I leave my car unlocked more often than not with no trouble but this was middle of school holidays & chaos when the boat came up the back of the trailer.

Bloody dangerous & a dog act, now it always gets checked

I had someone muck with my Trailer at Quindalup too last summer school holidays, but fortunantly for me i have one of those Trailer Coupling Locks like this

http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/SCA-Trailer-Coupling-Lock-Includes-40mm-Padlock.aspx?pid=215553#Description

I can actually keep it on even while driving, as it doesnt sit too tight, but enough that the handle that the hitch cant be lifted off the ball.

But i guess the Trailer tamperers saw this so in their frustration flogged my two D shackles connecting the chains to the car. Lucky i always carry spare shackles.

Probably was BJ, busy day indeed & not the type you need for the nose of the trailer to go flying in the sky.... what's with some people

I've got the old school

Sun, 2012-09-23 12:52

I've got the old school removable lights on my trailer so I always leave them in the boot to stop people messing with them. I also chain & padlock my trailer to the towbar of my car with very substantial chain & locks. I don't trust anyone anywhere when it comes to leaving my stuff unattended. They can still mess with it but at least it limits the damage & makes it harder to pinch.

whats the matter with these people

Sun, 2012-09-23 17:12

what the hell is wrong with these people, someone could be badly hurt if you don't notice or check your trailer when recovering your boat especially at night. I know it's not a popular line of thought but i most definatly agree with summary justice,it's immediate it's effective and the offender thinks twice about re-offending. if you mess with my trailer and i catch you at it i will mess with your head.

Stolen

Mon, 2012-09-24 10:50

Had car & trailer stolen from Hillarys Couple of years ago doing night fish.Trailer was padlocked to car they could'nt get it off,POLICE reported it doing burnouts in Padbury.Got it back but insurance would not cover trailer lights, as they were on the back seat and not connected to the vehicle .

Install a couple of fuel cut

Mon, 2012-09-24 17:20

Install a couple of fuel cut off locks. I've got two in my car that are well hidden & the mechanisms are plated in so they can't accessed from underneath. I always lock them both & take the keys with me. They can't steal the car unless they are very well prepared. If someone tried to steal it they would probably just vandalise it because they couldn't pinch it. Double edged sword but I'd rather fix something that's busted than not see it again.
