Weather tomorrow for small boat
Submitted by Stewart on Thu, 2014-04-17 14:59
G'day lads I have a 5.5meter Caribbean Baron with a mercury 135hp on her and I'm just wondering would the weather tomorrow (Friday) be ok to head out to some decent fishing ground of Ocean Reef or Hilarys?
Bit of a newbie question I know but I'm not long fishing small boats over here and I will probably have the family on board so don't want to put them at risk..

big if,
but if you get up early and get back early, you might be ok with the weather, but it wouldn't surprise me if the predicted 5-10knot southerlies, are more like 20 knots a few miles out to sea...

You'll probably be OK with
You'll probably be OK with the easterlies in the morning if you stick close to the coast.
However if you're inexperienced and have the family on board I would pick a better day. If your trying to get your family into fishing, you don't want to take them out when it's a bit windy and theres a big swell. You'll just end up making them sea sick.

Hi Stewart, if it's just you
Hi Stewart, if it's just you and a couple of mates then you can probably go fishing in almost any weather as long as it's safe and do-able. But if you have your wife and kids with you, then I strongly suggest you choose calmer conditions. Your boat will always be there when you need it and calmer weather is not too far away! :)

Thanks for the haeads up
Thanks for the haeads up lads, I did a recon this morning before hooking up the boat and the outer reefs of Ocean Reef were showing plenty of white water so postponed for another day unfortunetly but better safe than sorry..looks like we are going to catch a few bait fish from the shore instead to keep the kids interested and hopefully get out another day over the long weekend
So what weather is ideal for Perth metro?
Would it be light easterly winds with a 0.5 to 1.5m swel.
Cheers,
Stewart

Mate, we headed out from
Mate, we headed out from thompson bay Rotto at 6.30 am in a 28 ft Boston Whaler and we turned around after 10 minutes......bloody aweful! No weather for a 5.5 m.
Yesterday was a near glass off though, way better than forecast.
Boston Whaler 235 Conquest......getting the flogging it was built for.

Mate i would go fishing on
Mate i would go fishing on anything under a two metre swell and winds up to 15kn if they are both at there peak so 2m swell and 15kn it will be choppy out there doesnt matter which way the winds blowing if your going to the five and behond. thats my opinion anyway

Not too bad
I was out today from Ocean Reef from 6am and got in around 5:45pm. Fished well north, basically out of Two Rocks, 28nm from the Ocean Reef marina. Big swell, but otherwise not too bad. Having said that, I am in a 7.5m boat.
I saw another boat out there...is the Two Rocks marina launch ramps open, or was there someone else travelling a long way to get there
