Wednesday the 6th
First spot was full of dhuies, and first couple of drifts we had 4 with 3 undersize, and one just size.
Another couple of drifts and we lost a couple of big fish which burried us in the coral quickly.
Moved onto the next spot, and although it was flat ground and showed nothing on the sounder steve still managed this one.
Moved around a bit more fishing inside the bank for very little, so decided to move out.
Dave managed this nice breaksea, he was happy as it was his first time fishing since 20 yrs
steve also picked up a red on the same drift
Fishing around the area, didn't produced much apart from a few undersize pinks and another big fish which dropped off about halfway up.
Moved in to 80m, on the way back in and caught a few pinkies, and lost another big fish which seemed to shut the spot down, but it still showed plenty on the sounder.
Cheers
Dean and Steve

catch!
Well done Steve/Dean and Dave....bloody 20 years.....geez I struggle with 20 hours of no fishing
Nice Dhu & Red Snapper in particular. I was talking to a mate recently about this ie; flatish ground but yet it still produces and I would say there maybe little bunker stuff ie; food/shelter etc. I fished one spot a few days ago that has no lump or main structure but yet it produces good Dhu's & pinks and a few days ago I got a big bright "coral" scorpion cod so!!!!!!
This sort of stuff keeps me thinking!
I'll PM ya re what we spoke about...ready to rock!

Ryan we've pulled about 30
Ryan we've pulled about 30 dhufish off this flat ground over about 2yrs, and also blackarse and baldchin.
Matt we fished straight out from Oceanreef, and headed a bit north also.
We were looking for more ground out in 100m, but our sounder really struggles. Full gain, with bottom lock on 5m and it's hard to see anything.

Hi Dean,
Is this using the zoom feature on the Navman, or is it the bottom lock? I have been trying to work out how to focus the main screen on my Navman on only the bottom 10m however I have been unable to do this, it appears that it can only be done in the split screen.
From your pic it looks as if you use the small right hand section to stay in toouch with the bottom and then use the larger "split" to focus on the bottom.

my take!
Schooling Dhus & Snaps can move over barron ground when migrating. I reckon spots that keep on producing fish without showing much has the bunker stuff & more fish moving into the grounds basically replenishing.

steve it is using the bottom
steve it is using the bottom lock feature. when you use the bottom lock feature it splits the screen in 2, but you can change the size of the bottom lock screen by pressing sideways on the arrow key. We just make it as big as possible, so you have the normal screen on the right hand side about 1 inch wide.
hope that helped

Thanks Dean, I use the
Thanks Dean,
I use the bottom lock as well, I will just try widening the screen like you guys do.
Do you use the Auto range or do you set this manually? Normally I just run with it on Auto with a gain setting of around 16

If were in greater than 60m
If were in greater than 60m i use manual gain, and always use manual range.

A mate of mine did a dive on
A mate of mine did a dive on a mound on top of Direction Bank the sounder showed flat bottom . When they hit the bottom they found Dhuies ,Baldies and many other fish ,in the centre of the mound was a crack which went down a meter or so and the fish were just swimming in and out. He said you would see a fish just pop up and have a look around and just swim back into the crack ,nothing showed on the sounder though . I have some ground, and if it wasn't for the fish on the sounder you wouldn't even stop. Its probably one of my best spots..

Yeah the area we pulled that
Yeah the area we pulled that big dhuie expands about 500m x 500m and you pick up fish all over it.
