Submitted by Paul G on Tue, 2009-07-28 12:56
To all the people who dive Rottnest,Jesse and I are looking at Rotto this weekend .We have not been across to rotto before ,but would love to go and do a overnighter with two dives each day .We are both good divers and can dive to a depth of 20m.The winds are going to be light NE turning light NW in the arvo .Taken into consideration the swell and winds ,where is the best place to anchor for the night, and where would the best plases to dive be .any info would be appreciated. Also can you get tank refills.

G’day Paul I’ll pm some
G’day Paul
I’ll pm some co-ords tomorrow for you two.
1. Cave system on the SE side 10 minutes from Thomo Bay.
2. Caves on Roe Reef are very nice.
3. Plenty of places within 500m of the beach on the south side of Rotto. Try about ¾ of the way along – near Wilson Bay.
Anchoring at night – Porpoise Bay is very nice with a northerly wind. Some good snorkelling right in the southwest corner too.
We stay a lot of the time in Stark Bay – If North wind is light – it will be OK.
I’m not sure on fills – give Rotto a call.
Have fun - a few more weeks before I can try the wetty on.
Cheers Pete

Salmon Bay
Salmon Bay has a nice ledge that runs for a long distance from Parker Point... drops from 7m to 20m...Plenty of fish n crays - in the summer have seen spaniards there (although I can never get one on the troll). This spot is protected from north & east winds.
Also Crystal Palace is a great dive (off Parker Point)...
Roe Reef, Horseshooe reef, Armstrong Bay (done it at night) are all good... In fact the island in general is great diving

Hi Paul, one of the best
Hi Paul, one of the best spots I have dived is Jackson's Rock 32° 01. 630 South 115° 34. 900 East 3m - 16m, some nice big caves to explore. If you check www.perthdiving.com.au web site they have lots of good rotto dive locations.

Rotto diving
Last I was over there for the Rotto swim there was nowhere to fill tanks so dont take the risk and fill them before you go - at least you will def get a couple of dives in.
Spots all around Rotto and I like to find my own away from the regular ones so would say just sound around until you find something interesting and then have a crack.
Good luck guys
P.s if you need to borrow some tanks I have 3 (no air atm) that you could use

Avoid Roe Reef
The swell is predicted to be up around three metres - the reefs around Roe will be a flaming washing machine, find some more sheltered ground a little deeper
