Whale at South Beach

Righto, who was it?
We came across this sperm whale in between fish rock and the beach. It was just doing circles.
We kept our distance because I was flying the drone and Claire was on the helm but old mate drifted a bit too close and the whale didn't like it

Yeah i am surprised it made it over the bank inside fish rock. It had a funny lump on it so i wonder if it had copped a knock. either way, it didnt look great.

That was me/my boat swompa. Great pics!
For the record, I had been there for over 15 minutes. I had been on the phone to water police about it, but they were pretty disinterested. The whale didn't seem to like the engine noise, so I set up another drift about 100-150m away, and killed the motor. as I drifted closer she turned into my path of drift, and, well the photos say the rest! I actually have a video of this.
sad to hear she probably won't make it through tonight though.

I also called Sea Rescue and we contemplated calling water police but like you, they didnt seem to care. Couldnt help but note all of the fuss and round the clock monitoring on Monday. I guess DPAW is a Monday to Friday operation.

Too many whales around anyway, climate change, they emit methane...
I think that was one of the recommendations of cop69, less whales, less cows, but more export coal to help other countries keep the lights on....
