What’s your goto rig?

I was speaking to a mate today who said he’s goto rig for snapper is a double snell rig with running sinker. Personally wouldn’t have a clue at a good rig for snapper but I find with whiting can’t go past circle hooks and a couple of them. Anyone else want to share what they are using?

Basic paternoster prett well covers it all. But I do mix it up with a ganged type light paternoster for fishing deeper mulies.

I generally keep a good eye on River Monsters and check out what that Guru is up to.....

I like the triple treble hanger type thing for hook and shortly after release, I prefer usually not to see what i'd been trying to catch.....

6/0 suicide, 40lb leader, split shot about 10cm from the hook. Good for pinkies on the anchor.

Boonie's locked up in a dark room somewhere like the gimp, the only light emitting from a laptop screen. The door will open when Hawthorn run on the field at the start of the season. God help us all.

I have caught a few with a double snell, but the one i caught the most on is my special double twisted dropper loop and i add a glow jelly on one of the loops before the hook, and bait on the other. The twist gives it the strength to sit sideways and makes the jelly look like it is swimming. Only for deep sea though. No idea for land based... and no idea if im actually doing anything right... but i caught most my bad boys with these rigs. Look at me sounding like i actually know what im doing haha. Making rigs is my favorite part. :)

Can you tell me a bit more about this one? I've been trying to think how to do this with the normal paternoster dropper knot, and can't quite figure it out. Also what does a glow jelly look like (apart from a glowing piece of jelly ha ha).

I've been experimenting with crimped wire paternoster rigs (with mono leaders hanging off the main wire trace) to try to stop the waves from tangling everything up, and have had mixed success. I'd really like to see how you're doing it, and also know what the glow jelly actually is.

Hahaha... See i try to sound

Hahaha... See i try to sound like i know what i am talking about but really i just make up words. I twist the extended loop part on 45 degree angle before I do the bigger loop, i think i twist that about 5 or 7 times and then feed it through itself before pulling tight. The part that sticks out now sits as a tight twist. by glow jellies i mean those little glow in the dark things that look like little octopus sometimes they have tiny bits of glitter and generally come in those glow in the dark colours like green, pink etc. i find the green ones the best. Can you add pics on here?

Yep that's how I thought it looked, I'm stuffed if I can figure out how to do it though!  I'll keep experimenting.  Thanks for posting, I really appreciate it.

Fri, 2018-02-16 12:31

I could try do some photos in stages... unless anyone out there knows of a site that has it. I remember just learning the dropper loop and just added the twist later on once i got better at it and felt it worked better because it wasnt all over the place. i also make sure the distance between the first one is enough distance to the sinker and then again more than double the distance of the length of the first loop so they don't get hooked on each other.
