I personally don't fix mine to the floor so I can remove it hang it on the fence and high pressure hose it and remove the stench after a week or two fishing
mine looked to be stuck with contact adhesive originally

Glass or Ali.
My last glass boat had them down with press studs. Doesnt work to well when carpet shrinks over time.
My Ali boat its just layed loose, doesnt move.
You can get velco that sticks down. Works ok.

Glue it down. Mine is glued down and no offence, but I can guarantee mine has had more blood on it than most ever will, it doesn't slip, doesn't get chunks under it and all you have to do is hose it out properly after each trip. Good luck!

You will be surprised if you
You will be surprised if you ever pull it up how much sand and salt that will be trapped under there. No amount of hosing down will get it out.

I agree with the salt and
I agree with the salt and sand bit as i replaced mine which was glued as well, but like Lastchance i've glued it again and like him i've had no issues with it starting to lift or anything like that. secure it the best you can i don't want to be falling out because i slipped that's for sure. The carpet was wearing away before the glue failed and lifted.
I'd tried spray on contact adhesive but went to something similar to contact cement and used that, worked a treat!

Glued mine , glass boat
Glued mine , glass boat otherwise would’ve been loose pieces over kill and fuel tank etc ... when we go out have a extra piece of carpet which is loosely placed over main carpeted deck area .

Glue it down. I was leaning over the gunwhale a little bit on a cat in pretty ordinary conditions, floor was wet and carpet was loose. Ended up in the water fully clothed and tangled up in a daisy chain hahahaha. wasnt laughing at the time. Made like Jesus Christ and somehow managed to get up the ladder between the outboards and onto the boat in less than a heartbeat.
Cheers

Glue
Glue it down with contact glue, spray the glue on both surfaces , let it almost dry then press it down . Keep the glue light so you can pull it up if needed.
However, as said above, I preffer not to glue at all, this way it can be removed for cleaning and drying the hull floor every so offten .

Glue
I used this http://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-2l-kwik-grip-horizontal-contact-adhesive_p1233599 on my glass boat
seems to have worked pretty good - spread it over both the underside of the carpet and the deck then stick it down. You have to get it right the first time though as its nearly impossible to pull apart.
