I think if anyone is unsure of a particular type of fish there should be a photo to identify before the unnecessary killing if it is a turd fish.

In a good winter with plenty of rain to flush the river out, we would catch lots of big blacks inside all the marina's metro.

Some live there all year .

He clearly knew it was a bream, just wasnt sure if it was a black bream or a silver bream (which is a pretty comon occurance by many fishermen) so aslong as he went by the longest minimum size of the 2 then he hasnt done anything wrong! Its clearly size either way

Mon, 2011-05-16 20:55

ill take a good tarwhine over blackie anyday. I find silvers have a much more fresh flavour to them, and their flesh is much nicer. not to mention you will get more meat off a 35cm tarwhine than a 35cm blackie.

There was an article about a year ago on catching boat harbor dwelling bream. One of the better spots was hillaries marina. I'll see if I can track it down (bear in mind I have like a bazillion mags lol).

I have a spot (only semi reliable mind you) actually in Cockburn Sound where I pull black bream from, seems to fish better in winter.

Surprised the hell out of me when I first pulled one from there, no one seems to know about them either which is handy!

Well versed on the dif between tarwhine and blacks by the way, they're def blackies.

flangies,

i was reading a old western angler in the caravan i stayed in yesterday. there was a article on the northern marina's, and talked about black bream. but the article didnt give specifics which marina's exactly.

i think it was the dec/jan 2010 issue. hope that helps!

just a hint.........

Wed, 2011-05-18 19:39

try under the floor boards.......bream silver/black pinkies skippy and more pilch than you can poke a stick at! as a kid i would crawl around the grate on aqua side of the floor boards away from public, quiet place to fish and enough fish to keep you interested on a 2 kilo stick!

mmm bit of hint here to for you....

Berly berly berly and crushed muscles from the pillons make the best kind of berley mixed with some veg oil and burley mix...

then use whole muscles cracked just once with a hammer on the hook...

thats how my son got his cracker of bream... the little bugger out fishes me every time now when we at the marina. Then again I am working on the boat and he is fishing lol..
