I'd chuck 15-20lb braid or
I'd chuck 15-20lb braid or so on it. 20lb will cover a pretty wide range of species, even offshore (sambos on 20lb is fun, but perhaps not recommended :p). I'm not much of a fan of fireline, particularily in the heavier sizes, as its quite stiff until you wear it in, which makes chucking light lures like plastics a bit harder. Tuffline or similar is a bit less wiry, but not completely limp, so might suit better. Theres quite a few brands available though. I generally like using 300m spools, but the 150 yard spools should do for most things.

cheers hlokk yeh im not to much of a fan on fireline use it on another reel and find it to be a bit stiff as you said will give tuffline a go heard some good reports on it and will probbably chuck 20 pound on just to be on the safe side!

Re fireline: it has a lot to
Re fireline: it has a lot to do with personal preferences. To some people stiff=good, to others stiff=bad.
20lb is pretty much my goto line offshore (some might say its a little light, i say its a little fun), so you can still get fish offshore, while not being too unmaneagable onshore. Upgrade if you get smoked too often :p

the penn applause is a great
the penn applause is a great little reel i had one as my first half decent combo and put 8lb fireline on it and landed my biggest dhuie to date 5.5kg on it so ill always have a spot in my heart for the applause :D I would probley be putting 15lb on it just think 20 might be a touch heavy. As for a good bream reel have a look at bcf before sunday as there is the daiwa exceler on special for $99 and theres a few other good light reels like the Daiwa Regal or a Shimano Symetre there some of the smoothest reels around and all around $100-$150 which is quite cheap for a good bream reel

yea got a simalar set up. Got a 4000 Penn Applause on a 7ft, 6-10kg Shimano starlo stic. I run 20lb sufix performance braid really nice smooth braid i definatley think that most braid is better than fire line and you will always get what you pay for.

4000!
Stella's can handle heavier line than most reels. 30lb on a Stella 4000 piece of piss. I run 30lb braid as its my northern outfit mainly ie spango's/cobia/trevs etc on my flats boat in Exmouth!
As for here, 4000 reel.......go 15-20lb braid depending on what size fish your chasing!

Course they can Ryan I'm only stirring =)
Yes unless you're spending top dollar on your 4000 sized reel, don't put 30lb on it, you will blow it up. That said, unless you put a top quality jap braid on, you will get bugger all braid on it anyway, so it would be a complete waste of time in any case!
Best to stick to 20lb like your 10kg rod!

heavy!
K K, agree, especially Daiwa's as they suffer from heavy braid issues!
