Cost may depend on the power of the transducer you get with it.
In addition, I'm sure there were dramas with some of the earlier 585's and, I think, 620's, where condensation would form on the screen. On occasions this would render the unit pretty useless. There was a retro repair kit on offer, but I'm sure it was only a warranty job post a certain serial no. I was in this situation (basically the cost of a new unit to fix) and did a home handy man job of fixing it, which seems to have worked.
I would want to see the screen after it had been switched on for a while.
All that said, I like the unit.
Sold my 587 for 1400, would not have sold it for a cent less, would have kept it. Was 10/10 condition, good as new. Furuno's are relabel so little issue with a 587. 585 have a screen than can be an issue, I probably would not pay more than $1000 for a good 585.
I got my 585 with a tm270 for $1500 in mint condition except for a few small bubbles on the right hand side of the screen. That seems to be a common problem with them but it's that small that it doen't phase me and it hasn't grown bigger.

Saw one go for a grand on fb the other day. Can get a 587 around similar price if you shop hard too.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

They're getting on a bit
They're getting on a bit now. You have to weigh up cost v longitivity. My mate just had the screen die on his but he's flogged it.
I'd be aiming for a 2nd hand 587
