where to start

ive just started fly fishing and i have not caught my first fish on fly but this weekend id love to give it ago but the only problem is i dont kno where to start. i would like to go saltwater so i was thinking rockingham jetty or the flats in shelly but i wasent shore if the bream would be that far upriver during this time of the year so plz help me and tell me where to go i have a 5-6 weight rod and reel with 5 weight line.

herring and flathead off the beach in between Pt Peron and Penguin Island, i think the area is shoalwater. Once you get a bit more confident maybe give Penguin Island sandbar a go on a lowish tide, plenty of flatties, herring, skippy and whiting off the north edge
