where to take the missus crabbing

Howdy all

First off happy new year to everyone

It has finaly happened ive had our little ally runabout for about 5years now and finaly i got the missus out on it for the first time last night.

we went and anchored up at the foreshore in rockiingham to watch the fireworks they were pretty good.

anyway the missus realy enjoyed it, now she wants me to take her crabbing(wow),so if anyone can point us in the right direction as to where we can go either cockburn sound or warnbro or maybe even mandurah to go crabbing. i dont want to scare her because it took so long for her to come out, and she is petrified of sharks. so any info would be greatful eg depths bait etc etc. if she likes it i might be able to get an upgrade quicker (heres hoping )

                                                                                                     cheers

                                                                                                      darryl

I was at Palm Beach Jetty watching the same fireworks mate, would have been less drunken teenage louts where you were!

Long Point Port Kennedy when the wind is right there would be some quiet water and possibly reasonable crabbing not too far out. I don't really know myself (novice fishing again after 30 odd years doing other stuff) but people catching half decent sized crabs on rods off the jetty and shore last week made me think that could be worth a look? Looks like an easy launch too. Good luck if you try it

Depths- no idea off shore there- but for bait last night the crabs loved 3 mulies in a bait cage, beef spleen and even a tin of cat food pierced and cable tied into the net heheh, cat won't eat it so was worth a try and it seemed to work. They weren't so keen on red meat (leftover from a bbq not cooked) I fed em a buffet so maybe next week or two they'll be size :)

If you (or anyone) has some tips for the Rocko area shore based fishing, I'd love to hear em

And yeah- Happy New Year all.

The commercial fellas had a string of pots running near the saxon ranger wreck... dunno if they got much cause we sure as hell didnt, although we werent really actively chasing crabs just threw the 3 pots that were on board over to see if we could get something, A few nets from some locals at Bent st boat ramp caught a few while we retrieved the boat.... and a stoinker cobler!! The big weed bed just out off the bent st ramp seems to be pretty popular too... and itd be the kind of water to get ya missus hooked too
