I'm looking to get a new electric reel as I've got a few new deeeeep spots I really want to try.  Just wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of where to get one at a good price and which brands are the go?

Cheers,

Adam

Daiwa Tanacom Bull 1000

has a good reputation for the money but it's all about line capacity and how much you are prepared to pay.

You got 2 choices with Daiwa now.

Tanacom Bull 1000 or.... Seaborg Megatwin 1000 (more power and better looking... = more money)!!

I was going to tell you to

I was going to tell you to man up but I think in over 400m it's well justified. Targets?

rubies and 8 bar

Mon, 2010-06-07 16:27

Rubies and 8 bar cod and I guess out there, you just never know.  Found an online price for $950 tanacom bull 1000 fe, but not sure if thats good or not and seems pretty full on.  Thats more than enough line capacity.

Otherwise there is the 600fe, which is $680 and does #6(60lb)/500m so maybe 50lb is 550m and probably enough.

maybe

Mon, 2010-06-07 17:41

Maybe, but if you don't have to wind up 24-50oz of lead when you loose your bait, thats what I'm keen on.  I will fight anything I catch on manual though.  I'm more interested to see whats out there and I reckon my back will appreciate it a lot more than re-spooling my tld50.

More to it than capacity.

Adam,

just take into consideration servicing and at that depths like that may as get one with a heavy drag rating. I just had some custom leccy rods made up aswell. Swivel heads, short so you can reach the tip when it's in the rod holder and sexy. Pretty good selection these days.

A bit dearer than the Bull but is a 2 speed reel and a lot stronger. Retreive speed around 200m/minute heaps of extra features too

I have a bull 1000 FE loaded with 800m of 80lb whiplash its sitting on a live fibre 24-37kg stroker. Brought it all through Cambells Tackle as they offered the best price. Works great for me in deep water.

Bull 1000

Does the job. Fished out to 550 meters no probs. Drags not the greatest when it gets a really big one, but it means you have to pump and wind/push button more like a normal reel.
I use a bent butt rod (24kg tiagra) as i find it sits in the rod holder much better with the line vertical.
