White pointer Vs yaks
Submitted by carnarvonite on Mon, 2008-12-29 15:19
Saw on the news in Sydney on Sunday night a bit of footage of a large white pointer swimming around 3 yak fishermen, one was knocked off into the drink when it bumped into it.He managed to get into the tinny with the blokes shooting the footage as it circled. His two mates rafted up alongside the boat untill the bitey swam off.
I will bet that the three blokes off the yaks wish they were wearing brown pants so no one will notice the new colouring on their backsides when they got in to shore. It was shown again on Sunrise this morning, fingers crossed it will be on again tonight

Scary stuff...
Not the only shark incident on saturday. The yak boys over east were harassed by a great white, one was knocked out of his kayak!!!

That is a great Kingfish spot Number 3
Also pretty good for tailor and the occassional snapper.
I have done some crazy things in my life, but I don't think I would fancy tangling with a white pointer in a yak though.

I spoke to a guy
From south africa a while ago and he and some mates yak out to spearfish and see heaps of whites .What he said scared the s#it out of me but he didnt seem to phased by it.He said that every now and then a white would come up onto the back of the yaks to see what was onboard and they would put all their fish in water proof bags or in the hull .Now that would scare the crap out of me.......
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?

yeah there are heaps of
yeah there are heaps of whites of the coast of SA, been circled and bumped afew times when fishing of my yak there - they just come to have a "look" , if they started getting a little excited , just gave them a smack on the nose with a paddle.
if possible its best to stay calm and collective - deff no splashing around, that just gets them into a frenzy and the animal instinct takes over - kill to eat/survive, these amazing animals are used to hunting and chasing there prey and generally wont attack still/dead objects unless scented ..... blood, urine , bait plus all the burley used here.
saying that the design of the yaks here(that iv seen) has kept me away , just because there are no hulls to store the fish in , just a little place for a cooler box so any good sized fish is strapped to the top .... creating a blood trail, and in my opinion looking for trouble ....
i just hope that these few isolated "attacks" doesnt create another "jaws" and keeps peeps from enjoying this stunning oz coastline.
