Whites run

I know its early but with the content on here turning to utter bullshit and complete crap  maybe some fishing talk might lighten the mood? I have had my pot in since before the snapper season ended Was getting good bags of crays when my pot was left alone,  hitting a spot i like from the past but this year someone was nearby they weren't only pulling my pot but actually stealing my bait can't believe it, but hey shit happens moved my pots still having trouble with them being tampered with but what do you do,  by the way fishing same spots last 5yrs and only lost 1 pot before now but at the moment nor stealing my pot just the crays. But anyway all of a sudden crays have dropped off for me making me wonder,  my experience with whites is that they always hit on a full moon you may get splurges on a big swell  but the main run is around the full moon. Which to me says  is it mid November or mid December? Any thoughts.  I have also been catching plenty of double shells lately.

thank god theres a fishing post  ;p

seen some early whites 3/16 - double shell just parting  6/16 other  all still red on a splash  on wednesday early morning with m8, quota took less than 30 mins to get

rocko area

as for interference with pots, , look at the gear ID on the other blokes floats, give fisheries a call report what happened and go back in that area, they have new drones and are gung ho to try them Im told

in the old days there was the old splice a couple of trebles in 2m or so under surface, one every 20 cm or so for  2 or 3 m, with 2 or so  nice big weights on a 200lb  1 ft leaders for if  if they are using a winch, kind of ruins your day, but we would never do that nowadays of course

Double shelled. Sluggish they do not move much . Few soft whites around .Very normal . Get the odd ones in close . Jumbos will be moving in to low 30 m mark . Ready for run . Like throwing a bag full of lollies in school play ground .

Thats shit news Guy, as I said previously when I dropped mine out there during August for a quick soak 100% the pots were getting tampered with, full snapper heads wired inside going missing as well as full bait pots emptied after a week. somebody living on there boat at the back of the island is my guess...

I haven't checked mine in 3 weeks, finally got the Opti running again just today...New HP fuel pump being the issue.

Tuesday will pull the sick card...get out early rebait, quick swim and a squid is on the cards also....back in for a few beers and watch the big race.

We had a very similar situation up the coast and we had an idea of who it was, fisheries actually set up a discreet operation and nailed him.

Been no problem the last couple of years, you rely on other blokes doing the righty.

Sun, 2022-10-30 18:51

I think/hope that soon there will be alot more pots out there and I get left alone abit, at the moment there are only about 6 sets of pots in the area. Haven't had too much trouble in the past had 1 pot go missing in 4 years was a bloody good catcher though. Im hoping to get a calm enough afternoon after work 1 day as maybe the swell might have got them out and about.

Sometimes during the whites run I think I need cpr when your pulling the last pot of the day in a rush before work. Haha I still enjoy it and so does my son he gets abit seasick on the bottom bash sessions but is fine on a quick check of the pots.

It is never coming to Lancelin, the decision was made for Ledge Point and perhaps a road to go through between the two. It would stuff the fishing in region though, the reason it is good is because it doesn't get flogged to death with the nearest boat ramps Jurien and Mindarie.

Yep no  good for us at Seabird Pete, nearest ramp is actually Two rocks btw and we now get heaps of boats pushing up our way. The only good side was they don't hang around too long over the summer months or they have to punch back in the Sou Wester.

Forgot two rocks, not

Thu, 2022-11-03 07:21

Forgot two rocks, not surprised they push north. The other saving grace is the commercial fishing ban to Lancelin. Further north at Wedge they have been complaining the dhu's are getting smashed.

We might not be able to get out all weather at Lancelin but pretty much guarantee a bag out every time we can. It's a double edge sword people wan't the ramp so they can get to the good fishing, then it gets hammered year round by big boats and stuffed in a few years!

Agree, we are limited by the beach up there, it's only launchable for about 6 months max. So we have a natural ban anyway, but last year nothing as the coastal erosion saw to that. Managed a couple of trips to launch at Ledge.

Met up with Eric at OR, WARNING!!

Thu, 2022-11-03 17:31

We fitted a new double gauge that Eric had made up, fishiers turn up measure my 2 pots which I have used for 6 years and said the gauges were only 53mm instead of 54mm, even the new one, then he said I'd have to fit a single gauge at the opposite end to the bridle, put the pots back in the car, then he measured t2 pots Eric had made and they were ok, fisher's came back and said my double gauges was enough and I don't need one opposite the bridle, so off we go putting the pots in, up comes a a fisher's boat, he had just confiscated 2 pots for no I'd on the floats?? Not a great start, I'll run the grinder over the gauges and be good to go.

Thu, 2022-11-03 16:27

Hi uncle, checked my jig and 2 pots I have made for Allan. Gap with a vernier measure 54.5mm so I guess I'll take my vernier to the ramp next time. uncle didnt mention my sounder didn't work @#$%^& so had to drop blind. Water wasn't clear either. Dropped near some other pots where fisheries had confiscated the unmarked pots. One apparently had a legal Jumbo. So hoping

Nightmare run

Sat, 2022-11-05 13:19

Covid delayed the op to remove prostate 3 months, had op then urethra join came apart and scar tissue blocked up tube so couldn't pee so catheter inserted through belly. Second op to cut out scar tissue and rejoin urethra. Scar tissue loves growing so blocked off tube again x 3, so now got catheter in to stop it blocking while having 7 weeks of radiation then 1 or 2 more ops to permanently fix water works

So fingers crossed on an easy run home. Not something I would wish on my worst enemy -------maybe!!!!

Zero from the pots on Sunday, plenty around and good size on a shallow dive..Zero whites though, one soft shell.

Quite a few more pots out compared to last few weeks, Pros out working the shallows already.

It is the seals that rip the lids off, they are pretty smart once they work out there is a free feed they follow the boats and get straight into the pots soon as dropped till they have a full belly.

I wish my problem with my bait going missing was animals but unless they put plastic lids back on after steeling the bait I think its humans. Did loose a plastic lid last week first time more pots out there now plenty to choose from hopefully some crays this week.

Occy straps

Sun, 2022-11-27 14:23

I use occy strap rubber through the lid and onto the end of the bait box to hold the lid shut, so that you push against and lift lid it to open, rebait , then slide lid in and let the rubber lock the lid shut.

Dropped my pots in this arvo well away from where I have been before so it will be interesting tomorrow to see how we go

Probably anchored by the stern then. Had a simular problem one night up north with two anchors out in the lee of an island to keep the boat near the shore. Wind blew up from the opposite of the forecast. Was able to get on the boat and fix, before it sank.
