Whitfords Sea Rescue - Rottnest Safety Convoy - 29th April

Whitfords Sea Rescue will be conducting a Rottnest Safety Convoy on Saturday 29th April. We will be leaving from Hillarys Boat harbour around 8.00am. You can launch from Mindarie or Ocean Reef as we will have a vessel leaving Mindarie to escort vessels to HBH.

With the assistance of Fremantle Sea Rescue you will escorted in and out a number of bays and expect to return about 4.00pm. When we break for lunch you will have time to have a look around Thompson Bay.

The convoy is subject to the weather but we will postponed to the following Saturday if required.

A briefing for all participants will be held at our premises at Ocean Reef on Thursday 27th April at 7.30pm.

The cost is $60 per boat. (minimum vessel size is 5.5m)

To register go to our website - http://www.whitfordssearescue.org.au/safety_convoys.php

For more information I can be contacted on 0448122208.

Hey Iceman. I've always been a bit perplexed about this 5.5m rule as I have a 5m Seafarer with a 2011 90hp which I can guarantee will ride through choppy conditions a tonne better than a 5.5 pressed ali Trailcraft with a beat up old 1990's 70hp 2 stroke on the back.

Does this size limitation just come down to rigid insurance/public liability criteria for WSR?

Insurance cover

You are correct in regards to insurance cover for the group. I think the BIAWA convoy has a minimum of 5.25mtrs

There's still a discrepancy

Wed, 2017-04-12 11:41

There's still a discrepancy between the BIAWA which allows 5m and WSR but I'll just put it down to BIAWA being able to afford a higher level of cover as a professional organisation.

Not having a crack Iceman as I know you guys are a volunteer organisation and I am a proud member who is forever grateful knowing you guys are my eyes and ears on the water... just want to limit my interaction with SoR folk as much as possible

BIAWA

Wed, 2017-04-12 11:46

The BIAWA convoy is like $150odd from memory - see how much more insurance is for that .5m?

Jack, my boat is 7m so if we go together it's an average of 6m?

Trim

Just trim the motor out and measure the shadow at the end of the day and I'm sure you'll make 5.5m!

Anyhow Iceman, I've booked based on your post here so let 'em know you done good
