Who has stirred the pot

Just a little bit aside from the new regulations that are coming in re drink driving and boating, those on this forum who also engage in a bit of shooting notice that the police are conducting an auditing programme on firearm owners who have rifles exceeding 308n Winchester in "power" to see if there reason for having such a powerful weapon can still be sustained. The West Australian newspaper had an article on this last week I think it was.
To those members who like to hunt as well as fish this could become an "interesting time" and expensive if you have to run around and get up to date property letters etc.

Nanny state
Just more bullshit rules and regulations. People need to stand up to this sort of thing otherwise the freedoms we are used to will be gone. cheers Ace

Yeah awesome
I can somewhat see the logic behind it as that caliber of rifle is bloody big. However, I would have thought the cops would have better things to do like catching and prosecuting meth heads up to no good. Looks like once again it is the honest guys which will finish last in these circumstances. To be honest I reckon it's all bullsh*t. Soon you won't even be keep a bloody air rifle.

If a shooter has got a licenced firearm
He has had to go through plenty of hoops already, publicity stunt. I for one am still pissed off at the last buy back.
Only result will be the value of unlicenced 30cal will increase.
Leave the boaties having a beer and shooter killing a pig alone and get after the crack heads.

Yeah I agree on this one, if
Yeah I agree on this one, if a shooter has already proven why he needs/uses this kind of rifle and calibre why the hell do they have to prve it again.

I gather people
Who shoot pigs and larger vermin donkeys ect . Would need higher call rifle . More humane. I would be more worried about smaller cal weapons ,smaller lighter easyier to hide. Who's knows where there going with this.

Scano can you please explain
Scano can you please explain your reasoning behind "understanding the logic",
I've got a Sabre GF 670 15-24kg stand up rod that i've had for nearly 20 years, hardly used it....
Should the fisheries come around and make me jump through hoops to keep it, I'll say it once and i'll say it again....
GUNS DONT FUCKING KILL PEOPLE - PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE!!!
Its vote grabbing BS at its best and has been used as a tool since that 4 eyed little poof that enforced the last lot of regs that have done nothing in this country since Pt A....
I've got more rods than i need, more golf clubs than i need, more rifles than i need - for me its same same....
The people on my street are in no more danger if i had, 1,3,7, 9 or 5 fucking million rifles..... If i'm so much of a nutbag that i'll put someones life in danger then mental health needs to be looked at here not MORE and MORE firearms regs!!
And before someone comes on wanking on about the MR shooting, fuck knows why he did what he did.... You wont stop some people but dont blame the gun, if he didnt have access i'm sure a nutcase like him wouldve drugged, drowned, gassed, blownup, stabbed, electrocuted or even rooted them to death if that was his wish!!
Rant over until the next person stands up for this "logic"

My understanding is that the audit is more about gun security
And owners getting slack with such security. Too many being easily stolen in burglaries. But I totally agree people kill people full stop and nowadays a car or truck has become a far far more lethal weapon. Mental health is what should really be focussed on !

The wallopers are asking owners of large hi power rifles to justify their need for them as well as prove that they have the necessary skill to shoot them accurately.
The main guns being targeted are the ultra long range calibres like the 50 BMG and 408 Cheytac.

gotta agree with you on that
gotta agree with you on that Gordon. mental health is a major issue in my books, having suffered from depression in the past there is limited help out there for those people and families that suffer.
as far as weapons go its not the rifles that i worry about you can see them , its the hand guns that sit in pockets or tucked into belts that you dont see

caliber
Really come'on, we have some of the best laws in the world regarding firearm ownership. "ie" yes you can get handgun in wa but you must join a club and be vetted by them (not a nutter) and attend regular shoots, its been world recognized as a great system. So if you have a "letter" from a big property what is the problem with bigger calibers? We all know the size of the stations up north, they are massive. People do have hunting passions and hobbies you know.! Would love to see some statistics on murders in wa by "huge" calibers by licensed shooters....bet there hasn't been one! Suicides do tragically happen but there is not many ways to combat someone who has made up their mind.
Well what waste of tax payers time and money, i suppose it might get a couple of already licensed and properly stored rifles off the streets (out of safes).

Yeah sorry timboon your right
now that I have had more sleep (long night last night), I can’t really see the logic in this campaign.
But I was awake enough to still make my opinion known that it is bullshit firearm owners are going to be the ones that suffer here, and surely the cops have better things to do.

Its all ok mate i'm not here
Its all ok mate i'm not here to make a C&%T of myself about this topic but its something i feel strongly about...
The real unfortunate bullshit with everything assosiated with firearms is the more people get told "the Pt Athur laws made a difference" the more people beleive it...
I'm not here saying there shouldnt have been a tightening around some semi autos but its the way its sold to the public that really gets up my goat, especially in a country as large as ours but unfortunatly the votes come from the city.
This Forum has a broad range of folk, hunters, fishos, basically blokes that like to get out and about a bit...
I'd compare firearm laws to be somewhat similar to bullbars...
If the next time there is a mass murder where a vehicle is involved and it has a bullbar watch this space...
For blokes that dont own rifles but have a 4wd with some fruit on it, half of it necessary and perhaps half just because, imagine if they outlaw bullbars because of the potential safety concern.
You are now only allowed a bar that comes to say below the headlight. Well that would be a total load of bs wouldnt it, well for me its the same thing...
If i want to go shoot a heap of people i could do it with a 22 with z's and it would take a signifigant amout of time before the general public would know what was going on.
The reason they dont speak of this sort of thing is they know how to chip away at gun owners with scary words like "automatic" "high powered" etc etc etc
Comments like that arent helpful - This is Australia - Not Texas...
