LB Bones

There are a few different spots to chase them in Exxy, As mentioned Sandy Bay is a good spot though dont limit yourself to it. Be sure to fish the incoming tide generally the last two hours of the incoming is best. Fly can be very difficult though using Gotcha Flies are effective. If using spin than small 2.5 to 3.5 inch plastics work well on 3/8oz 1/0 - 2/0 jigheads. Using 10lb spin is good fun and I have personally landed them landbased upto 10lb using this gear.

Goodluck

WOOT WOOT!

Second half of the incoming tide, look for dropoffs etc and yeah 3-5 inch placcies.  Fly is pretty hard off the beach as we werent spotting them and even if we were it was an easy spin cast but a bloody long one with a flyrod and dunes behind ya.

Get waist deep pretty quick

Fri, 2012-09-21 12:20

Get waist deep pretty quick then it stays about that for a while.  This was just before high tide so if you have the right tides you can start out further the work back in.  You would have to be casting a full flyline plus backing to hit where I hooked this one and its mate before that.  Also we couldnt spot them it was all bling flogging along dropoff lines and reef edges.  There was a decent noah swimming along the edge a bit too so we just stayed on the sand most of the time.

bones!

Fri, 2012-09-21 21:54

Steve,

Landbase bones...... as Blake said Sandy Bay is a great spot. He killed it with big bones on SP a few trips ago when I took him up there. One of my favourite spots and the mid to run up high tide being the best!

The left hand gutter point being the better spot but current makes it harder on fly but doable with a stipping basket and heavy gotcha flies!

At Pilgramuna the South walk to the deep point and South from there is good also. Using SP will get you more fish but persisting with the fly will get you fish and big rewards. On the note of searching its worth blind casting with the fly as often thats got me fish!

Blakes Sandy Bay L/B Bonefish on SP......the next fish he landed was even bigger and on 10lbs spin!
