why do the smaller river fish not get many comments yet you bluewater fisherman get them all the time?
Submitted by SandGroper84 on Mon, 2010-05-10 21:04
Look im as new as the next bloke but from what ive seen only a small minority actually give a damn about the guys that fish the south metro rivers, would be nice if all of us got some nice comments, it is a forum after all, hate me or like me, im a fisherman and when i post something and get maybe 1 or 2 comments it makes me wonder why i bother posting, be fair people, its like high school again, got the popular guys then the nerds and not forgetting the guys that just want a bit of advice and dont even get a squeek, im not expecting to get any response from this coz im a nobody, im not in the popular group. SO MUCH LIKE HIGH SCHOOL!

that is a fair comment .
that is a fair comment . sometimes i have noticed the same thing , as far as i am concerned a good fish is a good fish, weather it be a whiting or a big marlin. keep fishing and keep posting up your catches . Always good to see what is biting and where

Fait point but as Brad said it is preference.
Like myself i am into more rockwall marina and beach fishing. i do not fishing in river or the flats so it doesnt really interest me.
however i do comment on what i think is a good fish and a GREAT story.
anywayz i hope you will find the site better and get to know the members better aswell.

ohhh i enjoy the site, just be nice if some of the smaller guys got some positive comments, wheather it be preference or not.
Pilbara brad, i grew up in the pilbara catching billfish, macky's wahoo, tuna, all the speedsters, love seeing the pics of your g-trains as you say, but its a forum for ALL kinds of fishing not just bluewater.
and it would be nice for some of you more experienced guys to help fellow members out instead of reading and leaving.

Its also definately about style. Take a look. Every squid related picture, me danno and brenz are all over it haha.
Any mulloway picture i've commented on.
I havent actually commented on many bluewater pictures at all, i mean less than 10 in two years, i dont fish bluewater.

I think you'll find that if someone reads that someone else is asking for advice and they have some to give, they'll give it. I love giving advice if I can help and I'm sure most other people will too. I always see people giving advice on fishing locations and stuff too... if people can help they usually do I think? Anyway wasn't havin a go just saying that I dont think the situation is that bad.. :)

As it's been said, nothing
As it's been said, nothing to do with the person but more the fishing style & species of fish. To be honest I have no interest in river, rock, jetty or beach fishing & would only coment if an exception fish is caught, where as off shore boat catches would more draw my attention & comments because that's what I am into, different strokes for different blokes.

fishing preference
Like has been said... its all about preference. I commment more on Bluewater as thats my interest. Like previous posts a good story and good fish will get a mention..
And i dont think its about popular people and nerds ..its about who has the chance to get out to target the specific fish. some have more chance than others therefore post more than others
I come from the south west i love seeing Redfinforlife's posts catching the Reds and trout but i also like seeing the big Bluewater fish!!
jeff
ps; i get to catch alot of whiting and Gardies for marlin bait so i do catch small fish i just dont choose to post it.

i love my bluewater fishing
i love my bluewater fishing aswell, i fished out of dampier for nearly 15years, for nickol bay and king bay clubs and have numerous sportfishing records (dont believe me, www.ansa.com search for matthew hall, anything from barra to sharks) nothing wrong with bluewater fishing, jus be nice for some of the bluewater guys to say some nice things thats all, especially with the youngsters

Preference
Like a lot of the others comments mines along the same lines.
One thing I hate is biting a piece of fish and finding a bone so I fix that by targetting fish with no bones thinner than a matchstick, problem solved.
If someone like one of my mates target small fish to the extent of marking on the calender dates where the tides, moon match up and heads off an hour before dawn just to catch yellowfin whiting and others who are like minded I give credit to them because that is their choice.
Having worked as a pro fisherman on salmon, beach netting for tailor, skippy, wetlining and shark fishing with a bit of crayfishing thrown in, I've seen and caught many memorable fish but that doesn't stop me from congratulating someone if their fish is a quality specimen and the obstacles they've over come to catch it.

Did you think of that yourself or did you have some help
Do you want to buy some checker print pants and a fly rod then go fishing for flatties i bet we would get some comments on that.
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?

Looks like us light tackle landbased blokes will have to support each other cuz there are alot more bluewater fanatics than river/estuary/landbased fishing fans.
I myself love landbased bream/ light tackle fishing, but it is a bit of a cock competition on here (no offence), but people see a 700kg marlin and it gets 700 comments, Then see a 45cm bream and are like " thats kind of cool, I'm gunna go look at more marlin." JMO
(This site is way awesome, but way more focused on bluewater than estuary/ freshwater)
The love of a screaming drag is universal to all fisherman.

Photos and Storys
I know that when I put up a post I check it regularly (for a couple of days) to check for feedback - human nature I guess. If not many people provide feedback I certainly don't get bent out of shape although it is nice to read some positive comments. All in all it's just an internet forum, don't take it too seriously. One thing I've noticed is if the photos are good and they are accompanied by an interesting story these posts tend to get more feedback. TELL THE STORY - GET THE GLORY.

dont worry about it mate,
dont worry about it mate, just get on with fishing. One more thing you probably havnt thought of is some of the guys that have been on here a long time regularly fish together and are actually quite good mates. I guess that is why some people get more comments mate. It is natural to talk to your mates more i guess than strangers.
That being said, i disagree that people are reluctant to help people on here mate. I now i will try and help if i can, if i dont comment (which is often) it is usually because i dont know bugger all about what is being said.
If i dont comment on a great fish it is probably because i havnt been on the site for a week or so (with life that happens)
Dont stress about it mate, put your pictures up, thats the sort of stuff that keeps this site going
sorry if i dont help any one enough, probably just busy with my own life at the time..........

As a woman I look at most things on here, I'll be truthfull I don't like the way they catch (release) Bill fish, think it stresses them too much (IMO) , so I don't comment on those photos, don't even look, but thats my choice etc. If I see a nice salmon, trout or bream caught I usually get old fart to have a look and its actually me typing his comment on here. Yes I love bluewater fishing but also love beach fishing, have posted some recent photos of Leeman, hardly anybody commented but it doesn't worry me plenty of people have had a look, different strokes for different folks. Keep posting, you mightn't get many comments but look how many have looked at your fishing adventure.

Bloodybex being sounds like
Bloodybex being sounds like you were proud of being a bully in high school.? sorry but i was one of those bullied kids in school, it was a question about why the bluewater guys got comments and not the river guys, i got that answer so ill shut my beak now. derp000 why was it a silly post, becoz i wanted to know why some guys get comments and others dont? fishing is fishing, it can be just as challenging catching a 1-2kg bream on 1or 2lb braid as it is fighting a GT on 80 or 130lb braid, its a forum and i did put this in the "fishing discusion" was a question not a whinge, some people took there bullying home with them from high school i gather. nothing to be proud of IMO

Well I'm not interested in
Well I'm not interested in land based fishing any more. When I was young, it was the only option. Now Ive got boats, I feel sorry for the blokes sitting on the bank trying to catch tiddlers. Still interested in big mulloway / salmon though.
And living in the Pilbara, bream are a bloody pest / nuisance actually, so are flathead. Whiting not bad for bait.

well dont you have a silver
well dont you have a silver platter to eat from pale ale, i know what you mean about those species being a nuisence, but drop your line class down to 1 or 2 kg mono and see how you fend, sometimes the most fun you can have is catching pest fish, and the south metro guys dont have creeks to go catch barra, or threadies, and marlin are few and far inbetween nothing wrong with land based fishing in the pilbara, i witnessed a saily caught from the fueling jetty, hampton harbour dampier, aswell as some 10+ kg macky trevally, your blessed up there, but unless your a millionaire or bought a house at the right time, or lucky enough to get a job with woodside and they more or less give you a rental to live in its hard to live up there.

I read this earlier today
I read this earlier today and wasn't going to post when it turned sour but have changed my mind so here's my 2 cents worth.
I'm guilty of not posting on river and estuary fish much, to tell you the truth I never click on that forum beacuse even though it interests me (bream/flathead/trout/general river fishing), I don't have the time to read everyone's posts and make comments, nor do I want to be the person who feels obliged to comment on everyone's thread. Sometimes my time online is limited so I can't read every post that I'd like. I never post on another fishing forum (Breammaster) but will read it every now and then and love some of the fishing reports on there. Just because I don't comment though doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it.
It took me a long time of reading Fishwrecked to become a regular poster, and even then I probably only post when I know I can offer really good advice or have a great story to tell or photo to show. While I know a fair bit about estuary fishing, I know much more about bluewater fishing so I guess those types of posts interest me more. Plus over the years some of us have met and fished with each other and formed friendships so we will often comment on their photos/posts more than on someone we don't know. There are only a handful of people on here that I met outside of the site (generally through firends or work), the rest are friends I've made through Fishwrecked so it may seem we're a tight group but that's just because we know each other. That doesn't mean we aren't looking at or interested in other peoples posts, just we don't want to comment on every one. There are really knoweldgeable people on here from all fishing backgrounds and we all have our favourite styles so my marlin photo isn't going appeal to everyone, nor is Brad's GT or Colin's tailor. That's life.
Don't let this stop you from posting, I tried to search the ANSA site for some of your records but it's a mess over there. Why don't you post a few pics and a story about some of your records, I and I'm sure others would be interested in reading them.
And if I can offer one final piece of advice, and this is directed at everyone, a photo with a write up is way more interesting than just a photo with no description. It doesn't need to be an article, just a story on where or how or even how long it took you to finally land it. Take Poddyfish with his speared dhuie, it was a great fish but the hunt story he added made the post.
Anyway everyone, take it easy, Fishwrecked really is the best WA forum so let's keep it that way.

Fluff
What a dead set thread about fluff.
If the only reason your posting something is to receive online gratification, your on the forum for the wrong reasons.
Just enjoy the forum, if you want to share something, just do it for the act of sharing, not for your own self esteem boost.
Regarding helping people, people firstly need to help themselves and the SEARCH function is a great tool to do this. If that's not successful then send someone a PM, some crew on here have a wide fishing knowledge base and others are more specialised in their area of interest but the thing that a lot of them have in common is their unwillingness to post it OR big note themselves for the whole www to see.

This newbie ain't complaining
I've been a member for a short time (long time lurker) and although I do prefer bluewater fishing, I reckon a little bit of everything makes for an interesting site - especially when the poster puts in a bit of effort to the post (must make more of an effort on my own posts).
Having said that, I have really enjoyed seeing the recent pics of billies from Exmouth and I'm hoping they will still be around in four weeks time
They really are majestic fish and look great when they are lit up at the side of the boat.
I definitely can't complain about the advice and tips I have received from other forum members too and I'm a lot more confident of catching a Dhui from my kayak now
Don't get too hung up about the lack of feedback and responses to your style of fishing Sandgroper. As others have said just do your thing.

Theres a simple reason why
Theres a simple reason why you don't get many comments the reason is most people who enjoy that type of fishing are on other local forums which cater for that ie Bendersjoint/Breammaster etc,,,most folks on here fish Saltwater i believe.
Mind you i had no comments from my pictures of last weeks Exmouth trip on a kayak,so its just the luck of the draw,,,,
