wiring a winch

Hi all
Well i need to wire up a lewmar capstain winch to pull my pots. To save on wiring up a whole new breaker and wiring can i run it off the current anchor breaker with its own switch as i wont be using both winches at the same time so it wont be overloading it or should i not be a slack arse/tight arse and wire a new set in.
Cheers

As long as the existing
As long as the existing cable and breaker meet the requrements of the new winch, and as you have stated they wont be run at the same time,I see no problem.

Check your ratings
If the circuit breaker and switch is within rating, it will be OK. If it's anything like my capstan, they recommend an 80 amp breaker and the switch will obviously need to be rated for that, unless you are running via a solenoid, then the rating will have to be on it. Only problem I could see you having is that the switch for the anchor winch will probably be on the dash of the boat, may not be in an optimal position to control the capstan. You shouldn't be turning the capstan on and off whenl you are pulling anyway, they are meant to be controlled by letting the rope slip if you need to stop/slow down the pot. But if the winchman stuffs up and you get a tangle by over-laying it, you need to be able to stop that capstan ASAP, as they can wreak a fair bit of damage in that scenario .
