Yamaha F130a or Suzuki DF140a
Submitted by Dyls 570 on Tue, 2015-11-17 12:33
I've decided the merc 115 2 banger on back of my Trailcraft 570 sportscab has to go and be replaced with a four stroke. I've narrowed it down to the new Yammy 130 and the suzi 140. Have heard a lot of good feedback on the suzi and was sold on these up until recently, I always figured the yammy would be overpriced. Can anyone give me some feedback on the F130a? Prices are pretty comparable at the moment and with the free rigging promo's on the yam I'm now tending towards one of these. Any info is much appreciated.
Cheers

f130a is my pic
horses for courses but that f130a looks sweet. I repowered last winter with an f150 from a f115a
Never missed a beat till I clocked something and broke a rod.
That f130 wasn't around then when I needed mine but love the f150

I would say go with the Suzi
I would say go with the Suzi as the yammy a is relatively new model and would have it hasn't really been tested other than in factory conditions.

Suzuki
We have been running yamahas (F350 & F115)on our rescue boats and have had no end of problems. The most recent was a lack of parts. We bent a shaft and there was not one available in the world, yes thats right in the world. We will be looking to repower our vessels in the new year. Most other rescue group run suzuki engines and I have not heard of any issues they have with them.
Also when ever we have had an issue they blame the operator or happy to make up any excuse except it being the actual engine design itself.
Suzuki is one we will be looking at.

Go the Suzi
We have recently had electrical problems on our Rescue boat and found that the yammi's dont charge at low rpm, where as the Suzi does. The lean burn is magic too.

+ 1 for the zuk
Hi
repowered the baron ealier this year (along with raising the transom to 25") with a zuk 140. tried to have yamaha quote on the 130 but gave up after getting the run around from both dealer and yamaha reps.
The 140 is great, yes it doesnt have the punch of the original 2 stroke (havent tried playing around with propos on the zuk yet) but fuel econonmy is incredible. Where I was using 145 - 150 lts for a days fishing Im now typically using 60 - 70 lts. I dont bother shutting it down in most instances and using electric reels for deep dropping (400mtrs) have no issues with charging
+ Fuel econemy, quiet, starts first time every time, no smoke, no additional oil, got what I think is a good deal ($14500 fitted with navman gauges)
-- Servicing cost at dealer (used to do my own servicing on the Evinrude), bit doughy out of the hole (only 50 hrs on motor and could play with the prop)
Good luck, sure both would be good motors, just depends what deal you can get

the zuk
$14500 fitted for the 140 sounds like a very good deal Bobakers. I would be interested to talk to that dealer as I am tossing up between yam 130 or suz 140 atm.

Yam 130
Decided on the Yamaha 130. Haven't had it in the water as yet. Hanging out for this weekend to try it out.
