I am contempating taking my son to Woodman Point to fish off the break water near the boat penns.
Is the spot worth he effort?
Went there Aus Day and the place looks safe and ideal to fish from but there we near nill fisherman there.
almost a tell tale sign that fishing location is poor

it is worth the effort if
it is worth the effort if you go and know what to target. Very likely to land some herring/ yellowtail with the right approach and rigs.
Got keen?

Thanks....not targeting
Thanks....not targeting anything just leisure fishing with son before he goes back to school - our bait will be squid and mulies.
We hope to catch what ever feeds on that

u got me guessing here on
u got me guessing here on the wording of "...right rigs..."
on you saying taylor type rigs - i assume rigs means 'trace' being combination of swivels, hooks and sinkers.
is their any recommended reading material i should invest in that you can adivse?

Preston Beach
Ended up going to Preston Beach - had a fantastic time with my some - caught x1 taylor and x1 skippy on mullies.
nothing was biting on alleged lures for taylor :(
Tried squid and nothing was biting on that too.
Wind wasnt too high, water was warmer than i anticipaited.
Did find it challenging trying to cast into the wind - how do you guys overcome this and get the bait further out?
Do i need a longer rod?

go to the beach on an
go to the beach on an Easterly wind. Resolves most beach fishing difficulties. Low swell also helps. 1.2m or less.

I got a 19 kilo Mulloway off
I got a 19 kilo Mulloway off there once so you never know if you don't try. Also caught a decent Bullshark off the rocks opposite once too. Snapper have been caught in the area too. Tailor quite often at night plus Herring and Yellowtail, Squid and Rays too. It depends on the day, time, tide, weather etc, just like any other spot.

Woodman Point - First Stringray
Took my son done last Saturday.
Fished south of the pier that was fully 'booked out' with others doing a bit of night fishing
He snared a tailor - under size - couldnt release as the hook was down in her stomach - tried some fillets for bait but nothing doing.
Caught my fish stringray - WOW - nice fight and this thing breached the water twice - was awesome.
Remember seeing a youtube clip about unhooking these suckers - flipped her over on her back, removed hook, flipped her back over onto her belly and returnedv it to the waters.
