Woodmans Point ramp this morning

rocked up to see a Triton ute minus tow bar trying to recover his trailer from the water. 3rd hand story was that the pin on the Rees hitch either broke or fell out.

Anyhow, timely reminder to check all of those bits you don't always check...

They got the trailer out but it certainly would have spoilt the day at recovery time.

I would have thought if it was the pin on the hitch that gave way then the chains would have kept the trailer with the car.

Sounds like there was a failure somewhere else to me.

I thought the same. Offered a hand but they were ok.

Trailer had the hitch on it so I cannot understand it.

Seen him there at 730, i had the same tow hitch on my triton and offered it to him.....but traiter was well and truely burried past the ramp with wheels over the edge.

Weird it broke 16 / 18mm pin and both chains....newer model Triton too so couldnt see corrosion being an issue givin the hitch doesnt hit the water.

Pin broken or stolen & he will have forgotten to hook up the chains & just didn't want to admit it. Breaking those pins ain't easy, even when they are worn badly so my money would be on stolen pin & the forgotten chains.

  I agree with the forgotten

I agree with the forgotten chains....pin i dont understand. He was putting boat in not pulling out from what i could gather....even if he was pulling out and pin was taken in car park i dont see how the trailer would have stayed on even if a short distance around care park to ramps.

Phukin Darwin award to who ever he was.
