Very clean looking yabs

Thu, 2015-11-12 21:16

They are very clean looking yabbies, unlike some of those that look like they have come from the black lagoon with the water levels low in some of the local dams.

Nice! Whats your secret? I haven't got any in my local dam this year yet. Not sure if they just aren't there, or haven't woken up yet. Been thinking about heading off for greener pastures

Cheers guys.
This is from a dam on private property closely gaurded by savage sheep and vicious roos.
Doesnt matter how many times i fish this dam through the year it still produces just as many. I even use this dam for stocking all my other dams.

Aquaponics? Wouldnt Yabbies

Sun, 2015-11-15 09:55

Aquaponics?
Wouldnt Yabbies be more sustainable than Marron.
Marron take like 7 years or something to reach a breeding cycle and they die off much quicker if the water isnt just right for them.
Yabies breed flat out and will live in most water..

I have had yabbies in tanks

Sun, 2015-11-15 10:06

I have had yabbies in tanks that will nearly go that color.
Dont mix them in the same tank but. The yabbies will make short work of the marron.

Yes, Cherax Destructor for a reason. My marron play friendly with my Barra ! Hence the Marron and they dont like to kill each other as much !

Lots if the water is dirty

Sun, 2015-11-15 10:21

Lots if the water is dirty not many if the water is clear haha

10per M3 apparently! But i have had more than that in a small fishtank and they where fine, its just when they start fighting/moulting its a pain with more !

If you do it just make sure you have it full of hides. Pvc pipe cuts, strung mesh holes~. You can buy them from diamond mesh i think they are or DIY
