Yes indeed, and there are the big brown cousins up to half a kilo in there too, a residential pond, a short drive from my house, unfortunatly for you, a secret of mine, mwahahahaha. Sorry. I would tell you, but I want the stock of marron to remain, they are breeding well in there. I tried several residential ponds before having success with this one. The difference is that all the ones I tried first were all relativly clear water, this one is dirty brown, perfect cover for these critters. Good luck

Back when i was a kid (28yrs ago roughly)we used to walk around kalamunda / mundaring with my aboriginal mate. Cant remember for the life of me where but there were many streams some only a couple meters wide but meters deep. We woud go to the local butcher and get a sheep heart and dangle it down into the water on a string and wait till the yabbies grabbed on then slowley lift up the heart and grab the yabbies.
He used to cook them there and then. He used to get quite alot. Not sure if its now illegal or if the aboriginals are legally allowed but he loved it. Would love to remember where it was
I tried emu lake a few times for marron etc ,only got stinking freshwater turtles.
the lakes in Beaumaris is full of yabbies,, just be quiet and go after dark, a few 'no interfering with the wildlife' signs have gone up there. (my excuse is to take my little boys along --just to have some fun for the kids) Good luck.
Something I've been meaning to check out forever but have never got round to it. There's a few lakes in Coogee I reckon are worth a shot for gilgies, anyone tried these? P.M if u don't want to advertise too much
a few years ago we used to put bits of 100mm pvc in the ballajura lakes and swim out and get them with your hands over both ends and get some monster marron!(my best mates parents had a house on lakeshore close that backed onto emu lake) the 2 clearer small lakes 300-400 east of emu also hold some huge marron but the locals by now would be a little less friendly about people taking them i would imagine. the little lake next to the primary school in the middle of ballajura is full of big gilgies and a few marron as well. cheers

yabbies are introduced and considered a pest, don't think posting them around is allowed. Most pet/aquarium shops sell yabbies and/or marron, dunno bout edible sized ones tho
A bloke from work got a 15kg box of yabbies from somewhere sent here to Hedland around Christmas time, will find out who from on Monday when I go back to work and let you know
From memory there was a prosecution last year for some guys chasing yabbies in a public waterway that also held marron, they were only taking the yabbies yet got charged for fishing for marron out of season as well as using illegal marron fishing gear. Just something to bear in mind!
Unless there is a local law introduced into a particular council, the rangers can't do squat. Swan for example (Ballajura, Ellenbrook, Bennett Springs etc all with good lakes) can't do anything. All they do is try and keep the boating to a minimum, but even then, they have more important things to do.
Fyi the residents in Balla are indeed not happy to see such activities in "their" lakes.

Plenty in all of the ponds but the rangers will be onto very quick from my experience.. Do gooders dobb you in real quick..
You won't have trouble getting them wait till it gets a bit warmer but..
