yamaha 40 leg query

gday all

The out-board has been sitting for over 9 months now and ive noticed an oil leak from under the prop which began 3 months ago.

Anybody seen this before and could give me an idea what could be the problem?

yammy shaft seal

hey mate yeah pull the prop and change out the oil seal. It can be a bit of a mission to get out I bent an old flat blade screwdriver to use as a small pry bay to get in there. They go hard and crack over time if they havnt been used or could have some fishing line in there.

I left an old 25hp yammy sitting for 2 years and had to change it out it had just perished.

cheers

if you have someone do it for you make sure you don't take it too the rockingham boat shop near the caltex on Dixon rd, very expensive. took my outboard there and got ripped off.

give athur page a call, if you look through the archives you will find his number.

use self tapping screws to assist

Scew 2 self tappers into the face of the old sea. 1 at 3 oclock and the other at 9.

Use a pry bar or large flat blade srew driver to leaver out the old seal.

peace of cake.
