Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone had experiecne with Yamaha's new digital electronic steering? I'm placing an oorder for a motor early next year and just not sure the extra $7k is worth it.. I guess it is the latest technology but $7k on other items i.e sounders etc goes a long way.
Cheers, Scott

depends on boat - if u run
depends on boat - if u run a big multi engine job 3 or more motors yes -u need a bit of force to turn 4 300hp motors, with the joystick version the boat can park itself, funny to see motors alll turning opposite ways and walking itself alongside
if u can steer and understand how to come alongside with and against wind and tide, and u run 1 or 2 motors especially under 250 horses i reckon a nice furuno would be better ;p = my 2c
happy to be corrected- i ve only been on 1 boat that had it on 4x 300hp setup

It'll be a single 300. I would hope after 20 or so years of boating i know how to steer a boat in all conditons! There is always a first though

I looked into the
I looked into the aftermarket digital/electric steering options for Mercs and found it was hard to get specific information, confusing and the importers/suppliers had little idea.
The joystick options on all the outboards looks to be the Optimus 360 from Dometic rebranded.
The actuators on the electric steering are the most expensive bit and if you are not using the joystick, should only require one and a tie bar for twins as there is less steering load on a pair of counter rotators than each individual.
But they knew little about it, and BLA rang me and then never followed up with the info.

The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

DEC
Does the DEC steering unit give you an incorporated auto pilot?
If so that helps offset the extra cost
