Yamaha service

So just had the 150 serviced cost including new water pump and a couple of other bits was $750 I am cool with that the water pump $200 and 300 labour. What i couldn't get my head around was that it has to go back in for a spark plug lead costing another 112 bucks more than likely plus labour and a wait of up to 3 weeks. I aren't sure but does this sound excessive seems a lot for a lead.

Im about to service my Twin F150's.
Site sponsor www.jetpower.com.au made me up twin f150 100hr service kits. Kits include filters, gaskets, fluids, spark plugs and water pump kit. Parts for both engines came to less than $550 with Fishwrecked discount. Yamaha only recommed sparks and water pump every 200hr so potentially could be less.
Buy the service manual and do it yourself in the driveway. Used to also pay $750 outboard.....

service manual
Hey Stevo81, can you reccommend a site to buy the service manual?
I have had a look online and there are a few "download now" sites but I'm not sure they can be trusted.
b.t.w. I do have the owners manual for my 150hp Yamaha - I am presuming the service manual is different?
thanks mate

$550 pretty good
Value . From a shop . I've always done my own from new. I click up 100 hrs in less than a month . I Wouldn't be able to afford $6.600 in sevices a year. On top of other expenses . Mine with plugs . Impela . Oils filters . Anodes ( internal) just over $200 every hundred hours. I always buy my plugs from Bursons .ryco also make oil filter with exact specifications as Yammy one. Jet power price is very good . My neighbour just got quoted $500 to service his 2 banga Johnson $20 for plugs $25 for gear oil $40 bucks for water pump kit ??? Mobile guy . That is way over my head. Seems steep for 30 min work.

Little Johnny, can you share
Little Johnny, can you share the Ryco oil filter part number with us please.
Would have to be a reasonable saving on the 45 - 50 bucks Yamaha charge.
Cheers

On nights tonight
Will check tomoz . I took my old one in to Bursons . They had perfect match something to do filtration specifications.mine only 80 Yammy 4 Stoke . Would imagine other sizes would have same specifications . Guy who told me has 60 Yammy . I'm up to 1750 hrs now had no dramas . And yes quarter of price. It's all about trying to save a few quid . Fully synthetic oil marine grade also seems to be the go now days. You can also match specifications spot on. Lasts twice as long and after 100 hrs still looks clean .If I reach 4000 hrs with no dramas I would be happy camper.

Seloc 4 stroke repair manual
Some years back I was absolutely outraged at the price I was charged for servicing my 115 Yamaha. And the motor played up first run after the service (which I find is not out of the ordinary).
So I thought I can read and most times understand what I have read I decided to service my motor myself, I have never regretted doing it not once have I been let down by the motor.
I brought a publication put out by a company named SELOC (www.selocmarine.com) my particular publication covers Yamaha,Mercury and Mariner 2.5-225 Hp 1-4 cylinder and V6 4 stroke models from 1995 to 2004.
I found it to be written in easy to understand language and easy to follow. I think it cost me $25.00 the best money I have spent. May I suggest you look them up and then think about how much you can save and most importantly know the work has been carried out correctly.
Hope this helps.
