Your single most memorable catch

Righto lads, i did this not so long ago but we have quite a few new members now. Here is your chance to gloat a little bit. If you could pic just one fish that you have caught in your life, and ONLY ONE as your most memorable catch which would it be

Mine, still is my PB barra, probably because it took me quite a few years to finally land my first meter plus fish and then when i did i managed another one not two weeks later

104cm, not huge but a great fish for the Pilbara and something that I will remember forever, it was released.

Fondest memory

Catching blue fin tuna in my tinny as a young teenager...its different when you are the skipper trying to find the fish instead of just dropping a line when someone else has chosen the spot.

To be in your own first boat alone, choose the spot, rig your line and catch a good sized blue fin in your own tinny at i dunno 14 or 15 years old, great time on the water and was very proud at the time.

A salmon off the shore in

Thu, 2009-07-23 22:40

A salmon off the shore in reef on 2 kilo down at Yallingup.  The popper was smashed, then the salmon took the 2 kilo platypus pretest mono through the reef along a ledge and some how the string managed the whole way along.

How the hell the line didnt tear was amazing.

My little black

Fri, 2009-07-24 07:39

Fishing alone I will never forget the thrill of catching a juvenile black marlin around 30kg in 20 odd metres of water just outside the last line of reef at Jurien. Released alive in full lit up neon colours it was a beautiful fish.

Mako

Fri, 2009-07-24 10:07

was on a mills charter trip one day, although the day wasnt impressivly successful with some people not even catching a thing, we were bottom bouncing almost 200m deep water for pinkies, when my line was taken just before i hit the bottom. 20mins later and a couple of aerial specticles and i had landed my one and only 4-5foot Mako. was certainly all ass and no class as i failed to catch another fish all day, but the memory of landing the Mako will live with me forever.

Jeez this is definatly a tuff one. A very close call between my first barra and my first GT. I've had a good think about it, and thought to myself. If i had a chance to go fishing for barra or GT's today, i think i would chose barra fishing... so the barra wins out! I was put onto both of them by Mr PilbaraBrad himself! cheers mate!

My first trout on fly

Sat, 2009-07-25 21:08

Eucembene 2005 - rainbow trout, 60cm, ~4kg.

I watched the bastard for 15 minutes working a small pool and I tried 3 flies before I sat a Mrs Simpson on its nose that it couldn't resist. For a while there, I didn't think it would take anything and torment me all day.

No pics unfortunately, mobile battery was flat and I didn't have another camera.

Mulla

Sat, 2009-07-25 21:12

If its only one then it would probably be a Mulla on Cotten Cordell Popper while fishing the Port River in Adelaide. Not big by any stretch of the imagination at 10kg but had spent a long time trying to get one.

Marlin out of a 12foot tinny

Sun, 2009-07-26 16:26

Halbey Bank Exmouth many years ago, on a slow sinking mulie and 30lb mono with three snooded 2/0 hooks. Including the bill was literally the length of the boat, mate wanted to gaff it and I steadfastly refused - way to majestic a fish to harm in any way, got it right alongside whilst under power and broke it off after having a good look

No photos other than a vivid imprint on my memory forever.

The Blue lined emperor the other night

Mon, 2009-07-27 09:52

The boss was cleaning up on fish and I was fishless (legal size anyway). The rule on the boat is a zero score you drop your dacks at the ramp.

The just legal blue line saved the day! LOL

Neels

Caught heaps and heaps of U/ size trout and coronations, aswell as truckloads of U/ size emporors. Good for the future up here in Dampier.
