Your TACKLE SYSTEM ideas

Give me some ideas on how to store all my tackle. I, like many of you, brlieve I have way too much tackle but obviously "need" it all.
How do you guys store and carry everything you need when you head out for an adventure?
I currently just through everything in a big tub but there has to be better ideas. Im thinking of a bag + a big tackle box.

Ive used a couple of different tackle bags. One is a penn bag with a shoulder strap with 4 big trays and heaps of pockets and 1 waterproof pocket for phone n stuff. Really good bag and can fit heaps in but is heavy on the shoulder when its full and trudging on the beach.

For Quobba I picked up a used backpack style tackle bag with 4 smaller trays and a big pocket in the top and one big compartment at the bottom. This was great for Quobba, I could fit everything I needed for ballooning with some bottom gear, lures and a 5000 sized spin reel in it. I also tied cliff gaff to it and attached rod holders. It is the only way I would have been able to fish Quobba solo at any spot that ya cant park next to.

I think the backpack style is the way to go. Need to find a better quality version though.

I only take out a standard

Sat, 2015-08-08 15:15

I only take out a standard backpack these days with a few roles of jigs and a couple of Tupperware containers I stole from the missus kitchen with a few hooks and soft plastics etc. Pain in the arse carrying around big tackle containers that then get salt water in and get all the gear rusty. I leave mine at home and just top up the little containers before each trip.

Yeah I've managed to streamline mine now to a tackle bag and one container with the pliers, cutters etc. That's it, don't take and esky as I have two kill tanks, one for bait the other for fish. The only other thing on the deck is a bucket.

I pretty much always take a tackle bag (shoulder strap) with 4 big trays and 2 small trays as well as 2 back packs. A lot of people think I'm crazy but I like to be prepared

If I'm just walking along flicking lures then I use a backpack with a couple leader rolls and a small lure tray in it.

Always take the 4 tray plano

Sat, 2015-08-08 18:31

Always take the 4 tray plano tackle box wherever i go unless it is walking up the beach for a couple of kms flickin lures, if then i take a tray or two out of the shimano bag (soft bag which holds 5 flat trays) and chuck in a backpack. The shimano bag usually gets thrown in boat for bigger expeditions more lures etc.

I have a big tackle box that stays home when I go out from Perth or stays up the front (cabin) when up north.

but have a smaller plano box with everything I'm likely to need for the day accessible under my drivers seat: jigs plackies, spare made up bait rigs, hooks leader sinkers etc. (just not packets but a few different of each)

Generally pretty organised and never (not often lol) have a need for something that's not In the "day pack"

For smaller trips I have a 50L or so tackle bag. Fish mainly plastics so have a tray full of jig heads and two wallets with plastics in them and a HPA jig sleeve and spare spools.

Bigger trips I have an HPA 100L duffel bag.

Bunnings

I was in Bunnings a few weeks back and spotted a Sidchrome tool bag for tradies. Lot of pockets inside and out and large enough to carry almost anything you would possibly need. Ideal for me either in the boat or on the beach.

Keep all of your hooks and swivels and any other small tackle in film canisters and they won't get wet and rust.

Sun, 2015-08-09 15:45

Being an avid Barra lure fisho I've got way too many and have settled for the large blue shimano bag made of that shiny rip stop material and have managed to fit three single sided 3700 size trays 2 of the grey double sided trays plus a couple of smaller trays along with all my leader, spare trebles, and tools. Works well for me.

Sun, 2015-08-09 16:37

I use a 20l bucket, the square one with a watertight snap on lid. It fits in a couple of trays with the essentials - lure box, knives, pliers, leader etc. I pre make all my rigs before heading out and keep them in the A5 zip lock document pouches from Office Works. Rigs don't have to be coiled up too tight so they dont get tangled.

I use an ordinary backpack (30L), which can fit a couple small trays and one large tray plus some bits and bobs and water bottle etc, but also starting to feel I need a more specialised backpack which would be more efficient in storing more gear.

I've been eyeing a couple specialised backpacks - the Kato one seems decent, but doesn't look very nice (just a little bulky and cumbersome for my liking).

I've heard that Aldi stock a decent fishing backpack, if you can wait until Aldi reaches perth!

Tue, 2015-08-11 13:46

I've got one of the 5 tray tackle bags, my soft plastics/lure wallet fits in the top pocket of that, leader and bits and peices in the sides and all knives and pliers in the front

Has one spare tray with nothing in it so if I want to go light, I just chuck my various tackle bits in that one and put it in a backpack

Im into everything in one way

Tue, 2015-08-11 14:12

Im into everything in one way or another. Any fishing is worth a try. Because of this I have a small tackle box for a few different types of fishing, rather than one for the lot. So have a fly wallet, a small box for bread and butter fish , a squid dedicated box with 3 separate containers off jigs (always take one off these whether squiding or not), a trolling box ( the biggest one), a jig box (but this mostly have slices in it as I havent collected to many jigs yet) and a boat box for bigger stuff like BBing.

Each box has a few different types off gear I might use, so for example there is soft plastics and jigheads  in a few boxes graded to what I might be chasing. These arent that big and if going on the boat to chase say whiting would only take in theory the appropriate box. But this doesnt always work that way and on the boat probably chuck the lot in. But for shore based I am a lot more concerned with the amount of junk you can carry so stick with one box. Not ideal sometimes as I have had times relaxing on the sand chasing herring/tailor/whiting when I wish I had a bigger "ammo' box.

Works for me as for example if I plan a whiting sesh, but some bigger fish turn up I dont have to dig around to much to upgrade gear. Just go to the dedicated box and change gear. All appropriate sized swivels and other terminal tackle are in each box, so have heaps off double ups. Even a small assortment of weights in each but also carry a spare sinker box that I can top up the others with or use straight from it.

I think I have six boxes off the top of my head to cover most situations, but apart from the lure one they are all fairly small.

When I was young had one big one with everything in it to handle big fish to fresh water etc. Now Im getting older try to keep the weight and size down.

I do tend to target fish though, and only sometimes change tacks midstream.

Tue, 2015-08-11 16:13

Like everyone else, I try to travel light. One smallish plano flat tackle box around 30cm x 20cm x 4cm with all of my terminal tackle, topped up as required from supply at home. If I am jigging, I have other different sized tackle boxes to suit. I have a surecatch holder of different leaders and a container of leads. Knives and pliers are kept in scabbards near bait board. Esky and bucket for rubbish.
