ytkings southern stones

Back from 3 days off the rocks down south. Salmon were everywhere, caught a few everyday (chucked all back bar 1). Besides a few nice skippy, big jackets and a couple blackarse (and odds and sods like big blackfish and moonlighter thrown back) the highlight was 2 yellowtail kings first day (about 4/4.5kg each) and a nice 7kg ytking on the last day. Would’ve been nice having a mate (camera/gaff man), but better than being in Perth.

Looks like a good break from the rat race.

Good effort with solo photos. Has the Penn had any hot up activities? What was your bait of choice.

'hot up activities' Osprey?

Thu, 2015-04-02 07:51

'hot up activities' Osprey? unsure what you mean, but Penn 950's been a workhorse, never any issues. 15kg Fireline and 50m of 60pd Jinkai leader. Rod's a 1 piece Ozflex 4.5m.

unfortunately squid on paternoster bait of choice, as mulies instantly drew salmon. plague salmon stopped all ideas of live baiting which would be ideal when the salmon run's over.

950 ss hot ups

Gee where do I start........

the Americians are in love with the Penn's, and with anything loved that much means there is many small changes they get given.

better drags - the Japanse seem to have taken this to another limit, but carbon Fiber is pretty standard.

anit reverse dogs - you can go to having two anti reverse dog pawls, and now can choose to have the ratchet in stainless or titianimum with up to 16 stopping points

im pretty sure the list of change out items goes on too.

Check out alantani.com and search 950ss. You tube has some vids too.

Americian postage is piced OK - $15 normally does it. It's just the exchange rate makes everything 30% dearer than it looks. Most people do Pay Pal.

nah it's just standard Osprey - 25 years old, 1 service, used hard, still going strong (touchwood).

thanks Callum and in my experience ytkings the dirtiest fighters ever and know where the reef is. sambos pretty dumb in comparison I reckon.

I'd love to have live-baited, but couldn't even baitcast a mulie/spin due to the salmon. ytkings caught on bit of squid paternoster rig would you believe.

when salmon run is over next time I visit a live herring with big Alvey is gunna be my preference.
