a bit hard to tell with the angle and color gone out of it but it is possible looking at the head it is a ambo. either way would have put up a nice fight
Definately a sambo. Can tell by the shape of the head, and position of the eye. Sambos dont always have the splotches, and can have a kinda yellowy streak, so colour isnt really a good way to tell them apart sometimes (pretty obvious its a sambo if its splotchy though).
Did you process it , was the meat white (SAMBO) or red (AMBO) also an Ambo has a yellow stripe along it's lateral line and it goes thru the eye and sambo's have the stripe but it doesn't go thru the eye.
Easiset way to tell is if it has small and rough scales and if you process it the meat is red not white, also the stripe thru it's eye.
Amberjacks do get the stress markings like a sambo too, the blotches are a sighn the fish is stressed if you put one on a deck hose to help revive it the marking fade a bit as they lose the lactic acid and stress less .

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
I use the dorsal fin rays to determin the sepcies.

Sambos have less rays.

Hi Matt
That fish came up with the normal sambo splotchy colouring, and then changed to gold almost immediatey.

Definately a sambo. The dorsal spacing would be tighter if an ambo (and the eye position and head shape arent right).

Looks like a fish to me....
Something I haven't experienced for a week or so. The water last weekend was like dishwashing water at the office. Nice catch though :)
