Geez- They look delicious! I can taste them now- Fresh white bread with butter, mmm and a cold beer.  I really miss the days when you could go crabbing in Cockburn Sound/Mangles Bay/Garden Island.

It's been eight years now since Crabbing was banned in Cockburn Sound, and very little feedback/infor from those wise men and women at Fisheries.

The stone baked pane di casa loaf from coles aint bad, but not as good as the old italian loaf. Butter too, as the saying go's "butter tastes better". I bet a few still go crabbing in mangles, as i've seen diving gear amongst the cars parked there, where the huts where.

Old and crabby?

Call me the crab grinch , but having seen what crabs were like in those same areas in the 70,s and early 80,s , to whats around now , and I think cockburn crabs

will be off the menu for years too come and will never fully recover.

Even if we didnt crab again there for another decade theres been too much loss of habitat , too much polution , and too many crabbers in the future to ever return to what we had.

Yeah i remember how big they where back then, grab them with ya welders glove in there face and they would be biting your bicep. My brother and i would be made to go in first getting towed by ski rope at first light. Bloody cold, when we'd seen a crab just duck head down and let the pull of boat take ya down a bit let go and kick the rest grab anyway ya could. Sometimes doing somersaults underwater, the flighty buggers. Ohh yeah, i remember one time we had watched Jaws the night b4, we had sore necks after that dive.
