What a load of crap

Wed, 2016-11-23 15:52

Some small brain type of Neanderthal is obviously very bored and is thinking I'll stir up the diving community.

I have just looked up the latest guide online and there is no mention at all about this sort of crap, nor does the governing legislation make any reference to this .

It could just be (and I hope I'm wrong) that some over zealous government type putting out a tacky notice to see just what sort of reaction from the diving community such a change would generate.

The first thing that shows it is crap is it is not on any official letterhead paper.

Next if you look up (and I did) the Rec fishing guide for rock lobster there is no such amendment.

Also can you imagine any diving association sitting quite about such a dramatic change.

There is no listing of this sort of thing on the fisheries site about a press release of this change which would surely happen to get the widest publicity of the change.

Lastly I believe that all persons (mainly divers) who are stopped by fisheries should raise the matter with the fisheries officers and let your views on the matter be know, in a very polite manner, remember the field officers don't write legislation or changers to the rules.

As a closure all members of this site should copy the notice from this site and email the minister pointing out that a judge has made a ruling about this matter, and noting his ruling is being appealed, however until the appeal has been won the current legislation and guide is extant, and as a matter of good grace a formal rebuttal of this mischievous publication should be made.

By the way I'm not a diver.

I stand corrected

Wed, 2016-11-23 17:12

You are 100% right Allan.

I have just re-read the 2016/2017 guide thoroughly and as the front cover of the guide did not have any red flag to indicate a new rule/law I missed it on my first scanning of the guide.

The front cover of the 2015/2016 guide has 3 red flags high lighting new laws, the 2016/2017 guide front cover has 2 red flags high lighting the 2 new changes to how to keep cray tails and pot specifications.

I made the foolish mistake of presuming that they where the only changes made in the publication and a quick look through confirmed that these were the only areas which had red flags against them.

My bad mistake.

I offer my apologies to fellow members for my mistake and comments based on such.

My only criticism of the new publication is that the relevant change, and it is a change has not been flagged.

Ive noticed a few changes throughout the latest guide that have not been flagged or highlighted.
I don't like to bag fisheries, but they still cant get these guidelines right or clear .

For f### sake

Getting way to hard, takes the fun out of a dive with the mates. Too many rules, tank tests yearly, and shark hugging greenies are destroying an enjoyable activity, expect to have fisheries boat side when ascending from every dive now. The practicallity of Identifying and sizing crays in a dark ledge, bad vis with a bit of swell is marginal at best. Pretty standard West coast conditions!

It's hard enough to get them into the bag, let alone giving them a full once over, sure enough you can notice black spot and berried up females, looks like it is males only for me.

Well that clears up a grey area, So now make sure you only come up with 8 in your bag, Tar spot, setose or under size and your busted. So now they have amended the guide will they be dropping the charges they made last year???

 So the rules allow potters

Thu, 2016-11-24 07:34

So the rules allow potters to "upgrade" even after Crays have been out of the water dead on the deck for over 45 minutes, yet divers can get pinged for not being able to count at thirty meters under while constantly looking  over your shoulder

Dumper, not sure why you would have crays on the deck for 45 minutes. You must tail clip your crays within 5 minutes of taking the cray from the water.

There's always people that will upgrade wether the tails are clipped or not.  Say Barry has two pots out and goes on a solo mission. First pot he pulls he has 7 keepers just sized that he clips the tails and throws into a bucket. He rebaits his pot, relocates it and heads off to find his next pot. After dodging 400 meters of loose rope, dodgy divers and pot thieves, he finally manages to pull his next pot which happens to have 8 of the biggest juiciest Crays he's ever seen. He returns 7 Crays back to the drink as he knows fisheries are in the area and he doesn't want to exceed his limit. I'll bet my left nut it won't be the jumbos swimming free

Probably longer than 45 minutes with a boat that pulls 6 pots, especially this time of year when people have pots in different depths

I would argue it doesn't say who's bag limit?! Come up with 16, old mate doing the right thing on board keeping an eye on things. I have simply achieved "our bag limit".

Absolutely no differrence to pot sharers!

Might be time to drop a 'stunt' pot just before each dive and load the catch into the pot before surfacing. Back onboard with no crays in the catch bag and then pull the pot.
