Fish ID req - 100m Exmouth

Fish ID req - 100m Exmouth

Can anyone help ID this fish, note it was caught in 100m of water off Exmouth and is NOT a robinson sea bream.  Also note the fin colouration and bump on the nose.  It could be a Japanese sea bream or some type of variation, but I don't have my book on me.

almost looks like a Japanese Sea Bream, but not 100% sure. It's a fat specimen if so.

Humpnose big eye bream ??or Naked headed sea bream

Thu, 2010-08-05 13:49

As you said it looks like a robinson seabream except for the bar patterns on its cheeks and the large eye.

The closest I can come up with  is Humpnose big-eye bream but it definition doesn't give a depth.

Inhabits coral reefs and adjacent sand and rubble areas. Distinguished by large eye and bluntly rounded snout.

Juvenile with dark bars that are reduced to saddles on back as adults

Tend to go with the naked headed sea bream but the bump on its head isn't as pronounced.

Naked headed sea bream--  inhabits sand bottoms and trawling grounds similar to Swallowtail Sea bream but bars generally wider and more diffused and tail not as forked. NW Aust and SE Asia.
