i believe thats the latest world record yellow fin tuna to be shot whilst freediving..
550lb??? please correct me if im wrong but i read the article in the international freediverds magazine 2 months ago and this fella was dominating the tuna..followed a piece of burley down, smashed it and needed a crane to get it out of the water...
i think i saw a doco on how these guys get these, they are either behind a trawler or at a rig and they burley them up and as they see them swim under them they go down and first shot is a kill shot, as by hwo many bungies hes got on his gun. saw the doco earlier this year on it, the can have it! be better fun on stand up gear
do research on it. it wsa shot in a no spearing zone, out of season for those tuna, on a un licenced for tuna fishing boat. and after he was dropped of onto the land, the tuna apperently "fell back" into the water when a rope came untied. he got into alot of trouble for that fish
I am racking my brain at the moment - but I seem to remember in Rex Hunt's book that he caught a 1000lb tuna ! I think it was off Costa Rica, but this was a fair while ago.
Mind you, it is Rex Hunt - I think he may have done more than kiss it!

Brain fade
Just remembered it was Steve Starling ! First aussie to catch Giant bluefin tuna out of Nova Scotia, weighed in excess of 1000lb.
