It would be magical catching these freshwater fishes in the gorges that you went to! Was he the only one you manage or was there more to boot? But thats a pretty fish... I wonder how the would go if you kept them in a aquarium?

Cheers..

They're an awesome fish

They're an awesome fish Jangles, spewin I didn't have lighter gear though. Should have forked out for a new combo before I went but I cheaped out.

That's the first of about a dozen I caught at the gorge. On bait, but would be awesome on lures and SP's.

I got a monster one at lake Argyle around 2.5 kilos.

You guys a very spoilt up that way... It would be good to fish Lake Argyle but hearing you pull up a MONSTER of a Sooty, boy do I wanna get stuck into them!!! Do they take the usual hardyheads or did you have a special bait? I can imagin them on the 1.8kg gear, they would most likely pull me into the water....

Cheers..

They can be caught on

They can be caught on Hardbodies and SP's mate, I was using red meat for bait which is supposed to be a top bait for them but if I had another chance I'd definately target them on lures.

Thats great Jay!!!

It would be the best to just walk around with lures with the magnificent scenery and catching beautiful fish like that Sooty Grunter! Would most hardbodies work like the ones you would use to catch bream such as Halco Scorpians 52 and the good ol snapbacks?

Cheers..

I'd say so Jangles can't see

I'd say so Jangles can't see why they wouldn't work. They're aggressive fish, often taken on barra lures!

Awesome Jay....

So I guess they have some relations with Mangrove Jacks right Jay? It would be good to see if they would out battle each other for a lure!! It would be a great sight seeing them smashing lures which are the same size of them!!! Do they usually hang around snags like Jacks and Bream or more Rocky outcropes and drop offs Jay?

Cheers..
