Port Headland fishin tips

Dazza and I have finally decided to do a quick dash up to Port Headland for a weeks fishin'
I have never fished there before so any local advice would be appreciated

We are leaving now so will be there in the morning if anyone wants to meet up for a cleansing ale.

Dean

Go and see Dean (Rajamullet) at one of the tackle stores, can't remember which now. Just keep looking until you find him and drop the fishwrecked name. Look for the green hilux with the fishwrecked sticker on the back as a helper. Bit of late notice for the boys to give tips, but good luck. :)

But I remember seeing Ryan etc. on Fishing WA catching some great fish near the cyclone moorings at Port Hedland.

Broken Bottle

Mon, 2008-01-14 14:32

I have read of a place called Broken Bottle that is close to Port Hedland and is a good Barra spot.

Apparantly Broken Bottle can be accessed from the Finucane road which heads to Finucane Island. You follow the road until you see a set of stairs that cross the ire ore conveyor on the left. Turn right at the track oppsosite the stairs and follow it until you come to the creek.
Just watch the tides

Thanks for the reply guys.

Thanks for the reply guys. What a trip, the red eye special driving up thru the nite dodging cows and trucks. The worst part being the 33l/100km fuel ecomony I was getting into a slight head wind OMG.

At least I am where the light winds are, 5/10kts tomorrow. Heading out 50/60 km and then sounding arround for some ground is the plan. Let you know how we go.

This is going back a few

Wed, 2008-01-16 11:35

This is going back a few years now but if you head out to around the 23rd marker there is some good ground around there. Biggest prob is the sharks.

By the way what do you tow with to get that economy.

SHARKS, your not bloody

Thu, 2008-01-17 21:03

SHARKS, your not bloody wrong. We found some good ground about 50km out and hooked some good fish but the sharks got everyone of them.
Ended up 84 km out and got a few reds to 4-6kg but the bite shutdown shortly after we found the fish.
I dont know how hot it was but the lack of any wind and the humidity absolutely knackered me.
I drunk three liters of water and still lost 2 kilos over the day.
Going to drive out to some creeks and have a crack at the barra and crabs.

Good Luck Noha and...?

Good luck Noha ! I'm dead jealous of the fishing terrotory. A trip up north is definately on the radar! Hopefully later this year!

Not sure what terminal gear you are using? Presumably a whole rage, Jigs, trolling lures, poppers etc - depending on the day, ground, and what species you're targetting.

But if you are using patostra rigs, have you given some thought to using looped stand outs on your dropper loops to facilitate easy hook changes without having to replace the whole rig?

Just a thought.

Hey Jay we are driving down

Fri, 2008-01-18 18:02

Hey Jay we are driving down to Balla Balla in the morning. Do you reckon its worth it for a crab or two and a bit of creek fishin?

Had a troll arround today for only a couple of small mackies and the friggin sharks were chompin our lures both on the troll and even when stopped to bring in yet another shark.  At on time we had all four rods go off with sharks. Three of them took stationary lure.

I've had enough of the bastards. Its time to go play in the mud with the crabs and croc's.

Yeah mate definately in with

Fri, 2008-01-18 20:44

Yeah mate definately in with a chance at some barra but there are heaps more places better than balla balla. Head up the coast from balla and have a squiz at some creeks that don't get fished as often - you'll have a ball. Chances are you'll be sharing balla with quite a few other boats as it get's hit fairly hard on weekends, especially since the tides are so good tomorrow.

Brad, Glenn and I are heading out for a day tripper tomorrow hopefully catch a few bazzas.
