New Boat Time
Hi all,
Well a new boat is on the card for myself, but im very stuck for what to get.
I dont know much about the newer boats, brands and makes which are best to look at.
So if anyone has some info...would be greatly appreciated.
I will give you a run down on what im looking for, wanting to spend, and the purposes of the boat.
Budget. price $125,000 or less
Size. 21ft - 26ft
Can be either brand new or second hand...but no older than 2004 model.
Dual Engines would be nice, but must be 4 stks...Dual is not essential.
Would like to mix size with Fuel economy. but id imagine twin 150hp + 4stks??
Im stuck between going for a fibre or a ally boat. The purpose for the boat would be to suit both fishing anywhere, and be comfortable for me to take the missus and the future kids..whenevr that might be out on the river, or into the ocean with some comfort. So this makes a split decision for me on the hull type.
Would like a small cabin with enough room for 2 people to be able to sleep if we went out to rottnest or something and had a night over. But again this is not essential. Also as much tuck away storage would ne nice aswell.
If anyone has any brands of boats, or links to boat websites, or anything at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Lucky bugger
You lucky bugger! Will do some thinking about this one, what sort of car do you have to tow it with? If your going 21-26ft fibreglass you will need a vehicle with some power.

if i had the coin i would
if i had the coin i would look long and hard at "noble super vee" range, "bar crusher" and similar designs ..... i admit that ive never been on these boats but i would look at them . i own a westerberg 7.5m and with the sort of weight your playing around with i'd look at 2 x 150 4st's or a diesel inboard (something like a volvo d3190 or 230) .. as for lay out id opt for a center cab with the cab as far back as possible in the hull as this gives an excelent ride in ally's .. with what ever layout you go for try to keep the weight low in the hull if you go ally (why the inboards are good)
best thing i can suggest is try them all :)
happy hunting and tell us all your results as you go

A new vechiele will be
A new vechiele will be purchased.. at this stage it looks to be a landcruiser... Weight is a problem, as i was going to look at buying a new Prado...but with only a 2.5T towing capacity, this is probably out of the question id say.
A vechiele isnt really a drama as i am in the market for a 4WD, so i will find one to suit. :)
Thanks for your comments....keep em coming.
Il check out your suggestions Feral.
Cheers

Bodie I just bought a Prado
Bodie I just bought a Prado to tow mine and I wish I had have gone cruiser.Beautiful car but my boat is pushin 2.5-2.6 and Prado's are not made for this IMO.

Yeah i know the new 200
Yeah i know the new 200 series looks sweet..and the missus wants one.... so its a consideration.
So you struggle with the Prado?
I was checking out some of the haines hunter boats and the 6-7 metre ones weigh in at around 1500-1800kgs, plus 400kgs engine.. not as heavy as i first thought.
the 8m is only 1900kgs

Don't forget that the weight of the hull is dry!Mine has a 450ltr fuel tank plus all the other shit you normally cart.I would have 60kgs of sinkers on board.

twin115 4st yammies for under $70,000.

Bunbury Fibreglass
Bodie,
lately i've been chasin black crabs in the SW with a mate who works for Bunbury Fibreglass(08) 9725 6404. they are producing high end boats with some high tech hollow fibreglass hulls, and getting really good results. met his boss who seems a good bloke. they are scoring heaps of orders just word of mouth. 'a glass boat that's lighter than ally' got me interested. Michael has a demo 20 ft console which fully hums.
just a thought.

If you had the Landcruiser
If you had the Landcruiser 200 Turbo Diesel i would consider a caribean 2400 flybridge on a trailer. Very nice set up for around 120K. If looking at Alloy than prob a custom 7-8mtr boat set up with the best you can get.

Here's my choice for 125K
Purchased new 2004, this Blackwatch 26 has been "boatman" maintained and is in magnificent condition. Powered by a fresh water cooled Mercruiser 300hp with a Bravo 11 leg, she will cruise at 21 knots, tops out around 28 knots and carries 500 Litres of fuel and 150 litres of water. Has shorepower and an inverter and comes with Simrad color GPS/Sounder and both 27 meg and VHF radios. Sleeps 3 and has an electric toilet and also a cooktop and BBQ and there is 6'2" headroom in the saloon. There is hot water off the manifold and she also has a fridge freezer in the galley and an icebox in the cockpit. Comes with a 2005 9' rubber dinghy with a 2hp Honda. There is also a comprehensive range of quality game fishing gear available at extra cost. Has full safety gear with 8 jackets from kids to adults. These Blackwatchs are incredible vessels and well renown and sought after for their handling characteristics. Dont put it off. Call 1300 309 567 or CLICK HERE to email us your contact details and we will put you in touch with the owner.

'a glass boat that's lighter
'a glass boat that's lighter than ally'
wouldn't ride like a traditional glass boat though.

2302 Trophy walkaround
awsome boats they go for around 120k with a 275 verado i think. they have to be one of the best layed out boats out there.
GOATRUTAR
I have heard that you
I have heard that you require a fuel tanker for them Verados.
One of the boys was running a 275 on a 20-24ft blackwatch and it was costing him over $200 to go to the fads and back when fuel was around a 1.

Is the boat your talking about that centre console called whiplash. That motor would have been one of the earlier ones. They claim their latest model uses 22% less fuel than their earlier models.

save the money!
Have to agree with brad, save the money and go on a lot of good charters and trips.

Hi Ya, Assuming $125000 for
Hi Ya,
Assuming $125000 for the boat, $65000 for a Landy and $200 per day for a charter boat trip you could go out on a charter every month for 79 years and have change!!! Or, you could go out on the same charter twice every month for 39 and 6 months.
But if you have my luck, 6 out of every 7 charter trips will be ancelled due to weather. But then, owning your own boat won't change the weather LOL
Hmmm.
Cheers.

Its not just the fishing
Its not just the fishing aspect tho.... missus would like to head out on the river during the warmer months....catch crabs...get cray pots... the whole box and dice.
Car is most probably going to be a Jeep Grand Cherokee Turbo Diesel... going tomorrow.

Hi Ya, Bodie, I wasn't
Hi Ya,
Bodie, I wasn't pushing any particular philosophy, just intrigued me to do the math. I did quite a bit of 'figuring' a year or so ago and hiring a boat when you need one makes a hell of a lot of financial sense. But it sure doesn't allow for the spur-of-the-moment trip. Despite all the financial arguments against buying/owning a boat, I would still like to get one. One day...
Cheers.

Yeah i get what you mean,
Yeah i get what you mean,
And if i were going to bury myself in debt in buying a boat, i doubt i would buy one...luckily enough i wont be doing so.
Owning your own boat does give you the ability to say.. "Dam the weathers good today, lets hit it" type attitude.
Cant wait!

Go for it Bodie
If you have the dosh go for it. I can only dream of being able to get a great boat.

G'day Bodie
Here's a few picks of a Grady White, they built in South Carolina. I haven't water tested one, but seen them up close - similar in initial appearance to the Trophies - but even more bling and finish!

Not sure Rod - $$$s - Dealer
Rod - yeah I agree - nice boats - don't know the price, but I know they are not cheap. Have to say, the glass work, fittings and attention to detail were really superb.
Sam - The dealer is Mandurah Outboards - ask for Karen.
That's where I bought my Carribean Adventurer cuddy from.
They've got one of the large ones parked outside and sitting on a tripple axle - what a beautty she is
!
When I had some work done a while back on our boat, they gave me a brochure (more like a book!) - it has a lot of drool marks on it.

Grady and Whalers are nice
Grady and Whalers are nice boats. Built tough and safe. Usually well planned and abit heavier then most others of the same LOA. I'd get another anyday.

grady whites
from what ive seen those grady whites are a fair bit more expensive than the trophies. Cant go wrong with a trophy, first class fit out, very well laid out and built tough. We have a 18ft trophy with a 135 optimax, its alot smaller than what your looking at, but their range of centre cabs are well worth looking at.
Three Lions
Trophies
Bodie do a search on some forums from the US on the Trophy's. They get a bit of a flogging over there, and are a cheap boat compeared to the Bostons and Grady's. Just because they are an american import, doesn't mean they are good boats. Do lots of reading on net, not many boats on the water these days that have not had a review done.
Ryan Thipthorp
for me!
I've been on a lot of boats Bodie over the years and the Leisure Cat's (WA made) stood out bigtime and contemplating getting one myself. I've got a mono hull now but the ride of two sponsons makes it a great offshore boat to take the punishment. Personally i'm a F/G fan and like the comfort ride you get from glass also.
I've just had a mate buy the new 7m WA made Leisure Cat and that was 145K new with all the fruit including new Suzuki 4 strokes etc. Good fuel storage, fuel range and there's a few models available. WA boat builders make a good boat generally to suit our not so nice windy coast line!
If you want to make an enquiry call Mark on # 0423685271,tell i recommended you!
Cheers
