awsome.never caught a pink hall like that off bunno,just stinkin dhuies .i like pink things.lol

But fished in 100+m , and had 9 pinks all size and 3 nannies all at 60cm or bigger and one dropped off at the side of the boat.

biggest pinkie was 80cm

RED snapper, or bight redfish as they are soon to be officially known, are more frequently being encountered these days as the increased use of braid lines allows anglers to fish successfully in the deeper, cool waters where this species is commonly found.  I can remember spearing a big red snapper in a cave off Hamelin Bay in the early seventies. It weighed over 2.5 kilos and was a big specimen by spearfishing standards, although they do tend to be bigger in water far too deep for free divers.  Prized for their white flesh and eating qualities, red snapper are an integral part of recreational catches in our offshore southern waters. On the east coast smaller specimens are prized as live baits for big yellowfin tuna, which just seem to love them.

Identification
Red snapper are a beautiful combination of red and silver and are often confused with nannygai, but they can easily be separated because red snapper only have six dorsal spines, whereas a nannygai has seven. The red snapper’s red dorsal line is also quite easily visible.

Size
The Australian record for a red snapper is 4.6 kilos, but a fish over 2.5kg would be considered big in West Australian waters. Any fish over 1.5 kilos would in turn be considered a good one

There are three

All Centroberyx:

NANNYGAI - affinis - (CN Redfish) - purported to have a SE Oz distribution only.

NANNYGAI, BRIGHT - gerraddi - (CN Red Snapper, Bright Redfish, Bright Snapper) - south to SW and Lower West distribution.

NANNYGAI, SWALLOWTAIL - lineatus - (CN Redfish, Swallowtail) - south Oz from E to W.

Red Snapper can have a long life and can live up to 60 years. That's if they don't take a hook?

We dont get the true Nannygai here!

We get,

* Red snapper (Deans fish)....sweet taste....grows big

* Swallowtail..... small fish....sweet taste....long tail fins

* Yellow-eye red snapper......small fish.....sweet taste

Nannygai are a different species that are caught at the bottom/Southern end and all the way around to the East Coast......up here they're either Red snapper/swallow tail or yellow-eye reds!

due to the fact that we west aussies have different names for everything there actually both a different true nannagi. the fact that we call them red snapper just makes it easier to tell the difference i belive. why we call them crimson snapper just throws another spanner in the works..

Mabey Ryan a nannagi was on holidays to perth waters to see some relitives lol .If Jay can catch a Pink snapper in PT Samson cant a true nannagi's get a bit lost to mate sorry mate just having a play with ya CHEERS SHAG

Yes you can get travellers Shag but they're an East Coast fish predominately and the WA species book says that also....long swim eh
