Spooling a new reel
Submitted by Kelvin8r on Tue, 2008-10-07 19:31
Hey all
I recieved my new reel today! i was thinking of buying some braid and spooling it myself, but have never done it before, so wondering wether to give it a crack or take it into the tackle shop and get them to do it for me.
Anyone got any tips or websites that can lead the way
Cheers all!!!

agree, take it to a tackle
agree, take it to a tackle store, most will spool it for no charge if you purchase the line from them and as dean said, the shop will get it perfect ie braid and backing

We had someone buy an alvey at work and they don't fit on our machine so had to do 1000m of backing and 500m of 50lb Braid on top by hand.
Not Fun

What sort of reel did you get Kelvin?
It is not hard to spool your own reel, but as the guys suggested it is much easier to get it done at a tackle shop.

and yeah its easy enough to spool yourself, but then you miss out on the all important "yarn" with the tackle shop employees. Plus they can spool it on a lot tighter than you can at home.

i made up a nice rig using my cordless drill, a small pretension pulley and block to run the reel in.
90% of the time if i need to re-spool, i just take it when im going to buy line and get the shop to do it.
