South Mole cray pots
I spent alot of this weekend fishing the south mole, catching plenty of herring and a couple of skippy. The 30kt+ conditions made for some hard work out there at times, but what made things tougher was avoiding the cray pots and bouys that were set no more than 10 metres out, all along the ocean side of the wall.
If someone hooked up that big snapper they'd been cutting their teeth for, there's a good chance it would have entangled with one of the ropes.
The 2 two blokes puttered out on their dinghy friday night, saturday morning and night, and sunday morning to check their pots, rebait and reset, only to create more problems for many people fishing the wall at the time. They were asked many times to reconsider the location of their string, and were continually asked why; when they had the entire frikkin ocean to venture, they would putt around a land-based hotspot and inconvience everyone involved.
Maybe i'm just having a whinge, but i was toothed off to say the least, so were hundreds more over the weekend.

Hooks
Accidentally leave a few hooks on the ropes, that will give them the incentive to move them

Isn't it the finish of the cray season
at the end of the month Tuesday is the 30th of June, think you can only pull your pots once a day for amatuers could be wrong.

probably not the greatest place
Probably not the greatest place to be dropping the pots, due to the number of people using the moles for fishing, but handy for the old European boys to head out in their dinghys and hopefully get a feed.
I watched a couple of guys a few weeks ago retrieve and drop their pots on the ocean side of the rock wall that links the road from the kiosk to the North Mole..
They simply motor right up to the rocks and drop the pot, then have a weighted rope that runs back 10-15mtrs from the pot, with the float attached to this weight..

No one owns the ocean mate,
Theyre within their rights to put pots there, youre within your rights to fish there. Whats the problem?
Anyway end of cray season at the end of June.

Few ways to look at it. In
Few ways to look at it. In my book the ocean is massive and having a boat allowes you to fish alot of ocean but landbased in perth you are limited especially if you love south mole like alot of die hards.
I myself find it rude to drop pots where you know alot of people will be fishing.

"get over it mate "
the boys with the pots have right of way mate, if it bothers you then fish somewhere else - and someone who is legally and honestly chasin a feed of crays doesnt need a hook through there finger mate!

with an attitude like that
with an attitude like that it seems you are incouraging them! I for one dont fancy losing a 25$ lure or a decent fish to someone who is 'chasing a feed'
If everyone thought like that there would be no spots to fish at, there would be pots in every inconvenient spot and we as the anglers, have to get over it and find somewhere else to fish at?
In this foul weather rock walls are just about the only decent spots to fish at anyway

Might be some pinkies in there Matt
The silver bream have been surprisingly quiet at Hillarys lately, while the small pinkies have been in big numbers.

same in dongara
is always like that off the rocks in dongara at easter time i usually just hookthe rope with a set of gangs pull the loose rope and float into th rocks and sit it on a rock until u leave then throw the rope and float back in the water when you have finished fishing. If u know whos pots they are and u want to shitt them off dont throw the rope back in. I did that to my mate whos a pro cray fisherman and he called his missus in the morning to get her to go down and throw the floats in the water never told him it was me .
Play hard fish harder

Same
when I/we used to surf ages ago, you'd surf and there would be a fisher person fishing close by. Bit stupid but you learned to get over it or move on. Bit of give and take. As said before, NO ONE OWNS THE OCEAN.
